Our Story
Zatar recently relocated to the beautiful Mexican coastal village of Sayulita, Nayarit. After more than twenty years in Berkeley, California, we lost our lease due to real estate development and were forced to close in June of 2016. It was pure serendipity that at the same time we lost our Berkeley location, an old family friend was selling his restaurant in Sayulita (the famous breakfast joint, “Rollies”). In August of 2016, we packed Zatar’s catering van and drove it 1800 miles south. After several months of remodeling and paperwork, Zatar reopened in Sayulita. We are grateful to Rollie and Jeanne for being part of our destiny and for our countless customers, friends and family who have encouraged us along the way to continue to follow our passion.
Zatar is currently closed due to Covid-19. We will offer take-out only until further notice. Message us for details and menus or follow zatar on facebook or instagram for updates.
