Qabuli is Afghanistan’s national dish. Both savoury and sweet, lamb is cooked with raisins and almonds.

Served at every celebration, Qabuli is served on a sharing platter. Typically, we’d eat this communally as a group, sitting together around a traditional rug (dastarkhan), all eating from one central plate, whilst sharing stories and chatting.

Eat it alone, or share it with your buddies. Qabuli is served as part of our lunchtime sharing menu (min 3 people) for only €16 per person. Message us to book a table (we’re open Mon-Fri until 3.30pm)

❓ Why does an Afghani restaurant have Buddha as its logo?❓
Bamyan is at the heart of the ancient silk road, with cuisine influenced by the far east, India, Persia, and the Mediterranean, blending many delicious spices and flavours. It was a Buddhist center with huge, towering Buddha statues carved into the rocks (devastatingly the Taliban destroyed them in 2001).

🏔️ Bamyan is also a mountainous region, and that’s why you’ll also see mountains nestled discreetly in front of Buddha on the logo.🏔️

Book a table by dropping us a message or book online https://hi.switchy.io/DN-T. We’re open Monday to Friday until 3.30pm

Manto are our scrumptious home-made beef dumplings, served with a mint and garlic yogurt sauce.

This time we really get to show you how the ancient Silk Road’s influence spread. They’re so delicious that they’re eaten in central and west Asia, south Caucasus, and the Balkans. Right in the middle of these areas is the Bamyan province in Afghanistan – showing how their popularity spread from China along the former silk road where Bamyan is located, then north and west from there.

If you prefer your food without meat, we also serve Ashak, a vegetarian version. Both Manto and Ashak are served as part of our lunchtime sharing menu (min 3 people) for only €16 per person. Message us to book a table (we’re open Mon-Fri until 3.30pm)

🌶️ We know what you’re thinking ‘Afghani food is just going to be lentils and rice with a lot of spice’. 🌶️ WRONG.

Afghani food is actually less spicy than our neighbours (bet you didn’t know that). The Bamyan province (where we’re from) is along the ancient Silk Road, so our food is varied, with influences from many countries.

We have pan-fried bread stuffed with potato and leek, and various dumplings (yummy) with or without meat. Beef koftas, falafel salad (or in pita) – we know you’re familiar with them!

Naturally, we do have rice dishes, too, like Afghanistan’s most popular dish, lamb qabuli.

If you don’t know what to try, grab a few buddies and try our lunch to share (min. 3 people) for only €16 per person. You’ll get a few light bites and a large plate of qabuli to share.

One for the vegans, ashak are tender dumplings with a leek and spring onion filling 🤤 . Time-consuming to make, most Afghanis eat them only on holidays and special occasions. But we think you’re special enough to try these whenever you want 😙 . That’s why we serve them every day.

We also have meaty dumplings called manto, with beef.

Ashak are served as part of our lunchtime sharing menu (min 3 people) for only €16 per person. Message us to book a table (we’re open Mon-Fri until 3.30pm)

Often found for sale on the bustling streets in Afghanistan’s cities, Bolani is a delicious flatbread stuffed to the brim with potato and leeks. At Bamyan, we make it ourselves using fresh, local ingredients, gently pan-frying before placing it on your plate.
💪 Versatile Bolani can be served as a main dish on its own, as a starter, or as a side.

It’s also part of our lunchtime sharing menu (min 3 people) for only €16 per person. Message us to book a table (we’re open Mon-Fri until 3.30pm)

🥟 Mmm. Dumplings!
From Japanese gyoza to Nepalese momo; to more local Italian ravioli or Luxembourgish kniddelen - do you know anyone who doesn’t like dumplings? Didn’t think so.

Have you tried Afghani dumplings? Bamyan serves beef dumplings (manto) and for our vegetarian friends, ashak - with a leek and spring onion filling. 🤤

As we look out of the window, we remember this time last week when we thought spring was finally on its way.
Here’s our friends from Clae Asbl enjoying the view from our terrace last Monday after working their paws off organising the Migration Festival at Luxexpo.

Let’s all show some appreciation for CLAE’s excellent teamwork and organisational skills that made the event such a success. CLAE has helped Bamyan out in too many ways to mention. And pulling off this huge event every year to give small businesses a platform, and allowing us all to taste yummy good from various other countries is an amazing feat! Well done, CLAE

Bamyan, more than an ethnic restaurant

Famous for the colossal statues of Buddha (the tallest in the world), Bamyan is located at the heart of the ancient Silk Road trading routes in central Afghanistan and has been influenced by the food cultures of the Far East, India, Persia, and the Mediterranean.

Known for its aromatic and flavorful dishes, Afghan cuisine reflects its ethnic and geographic diversity. Delicious grilled meat, fragrant rice, and steamed dumplings are prepared with local ingredients.

The short menu hosts great classics of the Afghani feast, like the Joja kabab, national dishes like the Qabuli and Iranian influences like the Zerishk palaw.

Family-owned by Afghan refugees, Bamyan is more than a restaurant, it’s a family.
