For Kalindu, being a ranger is about more than finding wildlife. It is about helping guests look a little closer, notice what might otherwise go unseen, and understand the world unfolding around them.

After two and a half years at Uga Chena Huts, one encounter still stays with him. On a couple’s final safari, a leopard appeared with her cub. It was the first time they had seen one, and for the couple, the sighting became a 50th birthday gift they would never forget.

In the latest instalment of our Ranger Series, Kalindu shares the moments that make guiding through Yala so meaningful and why sometimes, the greatest reward is seeing nature leave its mark on someone else.

Growing up surrounded by nature inspired Gayan to become a ranger. Today, as Senior Executive Ranger at Chena Huts, that same curiosity shapes every safari he leads.

For Gayan, guiding is about more than wildlife sightings. It's about understanding animal behaviour, reading the landscape, and sharing the stories of the wild with every guest who visits Yala.

In the latest instalment of our Ranger Series, discover what first drew him to the wilderness, the challenges of life in the field, and what continues to inspire him every day.

The wild never stands still.

For Dushmantha, that's what makes every day in Yala different. The landscape is always changing, every encounter unfolds in its own way, and even the smallest moments can leave the deepest impression.

In the third instalment of our series, Dushmantha shares an encounter that reminds him why a safari is about more than the animals you see. It's about the stories, connections and memories created along the way.

Meet the people behind the safari.

From first light to the last game drive, our rangers spend each day immersed in the landscapes they know so well. They are the ones who read the tracks, recognise every call, and quietly bring the stories of Yala to life, helping each guest experience the wilderness in a way that is personal, thoughtful, and deeply connected to place.

In the weeks ahead, we'll introduce you to the rangers of Uga Chena Huts as they share the moments that have stayed with them, the wildlife they've encountered, and what it means to spend each day exploring Yala's wilderness.

Some beginnings deserve to be marked with tradition.

With the lighting of the oil lamp, we celebrated the opening of Uga Ghiri, our newest destination nestled among the mist-covered hills of Ella, in the company of our valued partners and colleagues.

This milestone is the culmination of the passion and dedication of many hands and hearts, brought together to create a place that honours its surroundings while offering a new way to experience Sri Lanka's hill country.

Sixteen years rooted in the landscapes, stories and heritage of Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle.

At Uga Ulagalla, every experience is shaped by a deep connection to place, from quiet rides through the countryside to paddles across ancient waters and moments of stillness among nature.

As we mark this special chapter, we celebrate the guests, colleagues, and communities who have been part of our story, leaving their own indelible imprints along the way.

Here’s to all that is yet to come.

A year has passed, almost as steadily as the tide along the shores of Tangalle.

The seasons have changed, the waves have continued to roll ashore, and countless stories have found their place here. It has been a privilege to share this remarkable stretch of Sri Lanka's southern coast with every guest who has walked through our doors.

Thank you for being part of our first chapter. Here's to many more stories written by the sea.
