Touring the Debara Wewa

Guests leave the hotel early morning with a packed breakfast for 'Debara Wewa', which is a man-made reservoir that is the cornerstone of the village as well as an ecosystem rich in biodiversity. The first part of the walk passes the homes of the village, where most of the family is hard at work at crafting pots lamps and other utensils from clay which is collected at the lake.

Visitors proceed along the bund of the lake where they can join the local community and the wildlife as they wake up and go about early morning activities – be it fishing, washing of clothes or simply preening and drying one's feathers after an early morning swim. Depending on one's luck an encounter with a crocodile basking in the early morning sun could be a possibility. Debara Wewa is active with birdlife, butterflies and dragonflies.
