Theme: What We Carry, What We Become

Everything we go through leaves something behind — a memory, a wound, a question, a person, a version of ourselves.

‘What We Carry, What We Become’ explores the things we carry with us, knowingly or otherwise, and the ways they follow us into whatever comes next. The weight of what we’ve lived through, the pieces we can’t seem to put down, the things we don’t know how to name, and the versions of ourselves that emerge somewhere in between.

What do we carry with us, and what does it make of us?

About the feature:
Rayan is a spoken word poet, sound engineer, and organizer of Sidewalk, a Beirut-based open mic night. With over a decade of writing and performing experience, his work moves between English and Arabic, blending spoken word with elements of rap. His poetry explores the internal landscapes of identity, conflict, darkness, transformation, and the search for meaning within them.

Join us on Saturday the 12th of September at 1:00 PM for our fifth Long Table Saturdays event, curated by Samia Naccash and featuring Studio Kunukku!

About the workshop:
A hands-on craft session exploring the art of block printing through heritage, colour, and experimentation. Participants will interact with Studio Kunukku’s archive of traditional wood stamps from Syria and dive into the stories, motifs, and traditions behind them while learning the fundamentals of block printing.

The session covers the historical background of block printing, preparing materials and the workspace, best practices for alternative block printing, colour mixing, and printing on cotton fabrics. By the end, participants will have the basic skills and knowledge needed to continue experimenting with block printing at home.

Workshop time: 2pm-5pm
Workshop fee: 20$

About the facilitator:
Studio Kunukku is a multidisciplinary design studio and a Beirut-based textile production space. The project is rooted in a profound appreciation for traditional crafts and the dedication to rediscovering and preserving artisanal textile culture with a focus on Syrian woodblock printing, among other endangered craft practices.

The apocalypse is not an event, but a daily occurrence. This is about embracing the night, the city, damnation, defeat, and death without yielding to it. Make of that what you will.

About the feature:
Assem is a Lebanese poet who has been contributing to the Beirut poetry performance scene since the summer of 2011. Performing in street corners, local bars, and the occasional theater stages, he has participated in numerous poetry events—including ones curated by The Poetry Pot, Poetic License, Pen Lebanon, and Haven for Artists. Bazzi is also a founding member of el-Yafta poetry circle. He has contributed to the literary travel guide book “Beirut Guide for Beirutis”, and has a poetry book published by Barzakh titled “From Martyr to Rat” (2022) and another one published by Ornithopter Press titled “Endless Night” (2026).
