What. A. Year.
This is a posting I hoped I would never have to write…

Due to the immense challenges trying to operate a food and beverage business during these difficult times, our beloved Itaewon shop may no longer be able keep its doors open in the next few weeks.

We’ve made numerous sacrifices and painful decisions in order to stay in business, the most major one to date being the unfortunate closing of our location in Haebangchon last year, Linus’ HBC (Linus’ BBQ and Chicken). That was very heartbreaking to let go as I poured so much of myself into making that place even more like home in the wonderful neighborhood of HBC.

The cold reality is that without immediate assistance, we will be forced to pull the plug on what has been a labor of love since my early days cooking from a humble rooftop in 2012 when I first tried to serving you the most delicious American BBQ that my own two hands could ever make.

However, Instead giving in after trying every avenue possible, I have been truly and deeply moved by the outpouring of love and support from some of our most loyal patrons who just opened a crowdfunding campaign on our behalf. It has inspired me with hope and strength to fight on.

Dear friends, family and community,
These have been unprecedented times for all, and I know everyone has been affected in some way, which makes it so much more uneasy for me to ask for your help. This has been an especially difficult year for my family with not only the loss of my parents' business of 30 years in a fire, but now also my brother Linus Kim is at risk as well.
He has poured his whole heart, blood, sweat, and tears into building his restaurant business from the ground up over the last 8+ years. It all started from just the simple love of sharing his Southern barbecue out of homesickness amongst friends in Korea, who encouraged him to share it with the rest of the world through humble pop ups. Eventually he was successful enough to open a brick and mortar, Linus’ BBQ, becoming extremely instrumental in popularizing American BBQ to what it has become today in Korea. Those who’ve had the opportunity to dine at his place can really feel the warmth of his personality come through while experiencing authentic Southern BBQ, almost being transported to the American Deep South on the other side of the world.
He has fought tooth and nail to keep it going through this pandemic, which brought him to his knees but yet still too hesitant to ask for help. However through the love encouragement of his friends and community that believe in what he built, he realizes that there is hope, and that the countless people who’ve had fond memories and food experiences at Linus’ BBQ might want to come through for him, as he has given to the community in service.
