Book club with a difference :
After months of speculation, we will hold our first official bookclub meetup this Sunday at 4pm. Each month has a theme, August is Pridefulness. We will discuss around theme, bringing our personal experiences to the table as well as exploring the modern Prometheus tale of Frankenstein, mankind's hubris in the face of nature. Associated readings include Oscar Wilde's Picture of Dorian Grey, Sophecles Oedipus the King, Orwell's Shooting an Elephant and Ozymandius.. plus we will watch the 1931 version of the movie and discuss some friend's writings on pride.
Conversation will focus on our attempts to harness the godlike power of AI as we stand on the brink of a social & intellectual revolution, will we have the wisdom and strength to manage our creations- or will we suffer the same tragic fate as Victor...
Food and drink will be a la carte with a 'manmade' theme - the pinot/ cinsault spliced pinotage, St laurence & blaufrankisch Zweigelt and Aligote - and of course ian's favourite Cabrrnet Franc-enstein. (I honestly dont know how i didnt see that til now)

몇 달간의 추측 끝에, 이번 일요일 오후 4시에 첫 공식 독서 동아리 모임을 개최합니다. 매달 주제가 있는데, 8월은 Pridefulness입니다. 주제에 대해 토론하고, 개인적인 경험을 이야기하고, 프랑켄슈타인의 현대 프로메테우스 이야기, 자연에 대한 인간의 오만함을 탐구합니다. 관련 독서 자료로는 오스카 와일드의 도리안 그레이의 초상, 소페클레스의 오이디푸스 왕, 오웰의 코끼리 쏘기, 오지맨디우스가 있습니다. 그리고 1931년판 영화를 보고, 친구들이 쓴 Pride에 대한 글도 논의합니다.
대화는 사회적, 지적 혁명의 문턱에 선 우리가 AI의 신적 힘을 활용하려는 시도에 초점을 맞출 것입니다. 우리는 우리의 창조물을 관리할 지혜와 힘을 가질 수 있을까요? 아니면 빅터와 같은 비극적인 운명을 겪게 될까요...
음식과 음료는 '인공'이라는 주제로 일품요리로 제공됩니다. 피노/신솔트 스플라이스 피노타지, 생로랑 & 블라우프랑키쉬 츠바이겔트와 알리고테, 그리고 물론 이안이 가장 좋아하는 카브리네 프랑-앙슈타인입니다. (솔직히 지금까지 왜 그걸 몰랐는지 모르겠어요)
