여섯 번째 콤포타블이 새롭게 자리한 궁정동, 이름부터 참 아름답지 않나요?

궁정동이라는 이름은 궁궐의 궁(宮)과 우물 정(井)에서 유래했습니다.
조선시대 이곳에는 영조가 어머니 숙빈 최씨를 기리기 위해 세운 육상궁이 자리하고 있었습니다.
또한 당시 이 주변에는 우물이 많아 ’우물 정(井)‘ 자를 사용하는 마을 이름이 여럿 있었고, 훗날 행정구역을 정비하는 과정에서 ’육상궁‘의 ’궁‘과 주변 마을의 ’정‘을 합쳐 ’궁정동‘이라는 이름이 만들어졌습니다.

그래서 궁정동은 단순한 동네 이름이 아니라, 영조의 효심과 오랜 시간이 차곡차곡 쌓인 이야기를 품은 공간입니다. 이런 배경을 알고 골목을 걸으면 평범한 풍경도 조금은 다른 모습으로 다가옵니다.

Have you ever wondered about the beautiful name of Gungjeong-dong, where the sixth Komfortabel COFFEE location has newly opened?

The name Gungjeong-dong comes from two Korean characters: ’Gung (宮)‘, meaning ’palace,‘ and ’Jeong (井)‘, meaning ’well‘.
During the Joseon Dynasty, this area was home to ’Yuksanggung‘, a shrine built by King Yeongjo to honor his mother, Lady Sukbin Choi.
The surrounding area was also known for its many wells, and several village names at the time included the character ’Jeong (井)‘.
Later, when administrative districts were reorganized, the name Gungjeong-dong was created by combining the ’Gung‘ from Yuksanggung and the ’Jeong‘ from the surrounding villages.

More than just a neighborhood name, Gungjeong-dong carries stories of King Yeongjo’s devotion and the passage of time.
When you walk through its quiet streets with this history in mind, even familiar scenery begins to feel a little different.

Inspired by the atmosphere and history of this neighborhood, Komfortabel COFFEE Gungjeong-dong hopes to become a place where you can slow down and stay a little longer.
