Naughty Muse Studios international art residency project “ ” aims to provide an accessible venue with necessary equipment and support to create artworks, exchange ideas, culture and skills enabling international artists to easily visit Busan, South Korea and provide local artists with international artistic networking.

We offer a self-funded, partially self-funded and awarded, self-directed residency program in Busan, South Korea.

We celebrate varied ideas, world views, and personal characteristics. We are committed to being an organization that welcomes and respects everyone regardless of age, ethnicity, religion, philosophical or political beliefs, sexual orientation, and gender identity/expression.

The residency program at Naughty Muse Studios provides an opportunity for a self-directed creative experience that honors creative integrity. We trust individuals to know what they need in order to cultivate their individual talent, whether it’s to work, to experiment, or to simply rejuvenate.

We organize trips to local museums, galleries, artist’s studios, historical sites monthly. Workshops with local craftsmen, critiques, and other activities may be organized upon request.

Each resident is provided with their own area within a shared studio space. A variety of tools and facilities, such as an etching press and silk screen facilities are also included. The number of residents at Naughty Muse Studios is intentionally kept low (4-6 people).

Residents are provided with individual self-contained studio apartments. Located in the iconic Haeundae area, known for its beautiful beach, luxury hotels, and bustling nightlife.

4-week introduction to contemporary and classical printmaking

This beginner-friendly course offers an introduction to the fundamental principles of printmaking through both historical context and hands-on studio practice. Across four classes, participants will explore several major printmaking techniques, learning how artists have used reproducible image-making processes from traditional craft practices to contemporary experimental art.

The course is designed for complete beginners and focuses on accessible methods that encourage experimentation, image development, and material understanding. Each session combines a short presentation on historical and contemporary examples with practical studio work. By the end of the course, participants will produce a small portfolio of prints using different techniques and gain foundational knowledge of printmaking processes.

No prior experience is required.

During an Open studio event join an exciting workshop run by one of our resident artist Eugenia Babini ( )!

Drypoint is an intaglio printmaking technique that creates an image with sharp lines and fuzzy, velvety edges.

What you will do at the workshop:
- Learn the basics of the technique;
- Create your own printing matrix
- Print an edition from the matrix
- Enjoy your time

About an artist:
Eugenia Babini is an Italian artist with printmaking training and bachelor degree in Graphic Art from Academy of Fine Art, Florence, master degrees in photography from Adam’s Experimental Photography Center, Rome and Italian Design Institute , Milan.

MODEL LIFE DRAWING SESSION IN MAY!

Looking is different from seeing. Looking at things is easy, but seeing is harder. We can easily look at a model and know that it’s a model. But seeing means understanding the model’s body, knowing where the muscles are, how the body is rotated, where the shadows and lights are, the proportions and relationships of parts of the body, the angle at which the head is tilted etc. By seeing, we can draw with more detail.

These sessions are open and beneficial to all levels artists.

MEET THE ARTIST!

Meet Bianca Loiacono ( ). A beautiful artist, writer and director with sparkling personality! Bianca came from Australia and stayed in the studio for two weeks in March.

“My work is driven by the deliberate use of visual and linguistic mechanisms, exploring the resonance created when art and script spire. Focused on vibration, I build works that harmonise structure and lyricism, shaping narratives that are both seen and read.
With origins in visual art, my work moves fl uidly through art direction, spatial storytelling, script writing, moving image and installation. Each form offering a new way to tune into experience.
Directing film is the natural evolution of my work. It unites all I have crafted across visual, spatial and narrative forms, a place where atmosphere meets shape.”

MEET THE ARTIST!!!

In February and March we welcomed our first artist from Taiwan – gentle, calm and warmhearted Hsiaoyu Tung ( )
♥️

I’m Hsiaoyu, an illustrator from Taiwan. My work focuses on black-and-white line drawing, exploring the relationship between line and space.

During my residency at Naughty Muse Studio, I reconnected with my previous printmaking experience in silkscreen and also learned etching. This allowed me to deepen my understanding of line and layering. At the same time, experimenting with color and layered silkscreen printing opened up new possibilities beyond my usual black-and-white practice.

This residency gave me new visual and sensory inspiration through a different cultural and environmental context. In the future, I hope to incorporate printmaking and etching into my work and continue expanding my visual language.

MEET THE ARTIST!

Meet warm and kind Iida Hägglund ( ) from cold Nordic Finland!

Iida Hägglund (b.1991) is Helsinki based, Finnish sound artist, composer, musician, writer, performer and girlartist. She has Mdes in Sound for the Moving Image from Glasgow School of Art and Master of Arts from University of the Arts Helsinki Theatre Academy. Hägglund is interested in feminist practices and themes. In her work she’s constantly exploring what could feminist sound and installation art be like. During her second master thesis she coined a term ‘girlsound’ that describes her art practice. Girlsound is intensive, dreamlike, hauntological, it’s resonance in your body, charged, it’s a rebellion, mistakes, sad girl, bittersweet, on the edge of happiness, it’s silly, contradictory, it is home.

Hägglund has worked in several projects including her own artistic work as well as theatre and dance productions, installations, short films, tv programmes and adverts.

MEET THE ARTIST!

It’s such a pleasure to welcome another talented artist in January. Meet Eliza Frensley ( )!

Eliza Frensley, born and raised in Middle Tennessee. She received an MFA from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) with a focus in printmaking and a minor in art history and a BFA in printmaking from Tyler School of Art & Architecture at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.

Her work documents familial and sociological observations by transforming archival image and historical family materials into layered visual narratives, making visible the subtle social and economic divides embedded in inherited domestic narratives and within the fabrication of Americanism. Her practice explores how printmaking and photography mediate the construction, fragmentation, and reimagining of personal and collective identity.

Frensley was the recipient of the 2025 Frogman’s Graduate Student Scholarship, a nationally competitive printmaking award and received recognition from UTK for Excellence in Graduate Student Research. Her work has been exhibited in numerous juried exhibitions with her current body of work exhibiting in the Bankers Alley Hotel gallery in Nashville, TN.
