Our Story
The Restaurant
Khmer 652 restaurant was born out of chef Anna’s passion for true Cambodian home cooking. Arriving in Siem Reap at the age of five, she started learning it at her grandmother’s knee, in a traditional wooden house a stone’s throw from the river, surrounded by tall trees and the sounds of nature. On a single wood burner, they produced dish after delicious dish with ingredients often found in their immediate surroundings, as people have done in Cambodia since time immemorial, but tempered by centuries of French colonial and other regional influences.
The traditions of proper ‘auntie food’ are fast disappearing across the region, and our mission is to help keep them alive, so we present authentic Khmer dishes the way they are eaten in Cambodian homes, using the freshest and, wherever possible, organic local ingredients, without sexing them up, tamping them down or otherwise messing about.
Khmer food is shared around the family table, dishes arriving in the order in which they are finished and everyone helping themselves bite for bite, and that is the experience we try to recreate here with our a la carte menu and seasonal specials.
