Sometime last year I wrote a comment on the technologies of the future to watch. One of them was something called Blockchain, the technology used to create cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. As I said at the time, I was doing some deep on Blockchain systems.
To be very honest, it took me quite some time to really understand it technically. I asked for technical research papers and books, and began to learn as much as I could.
“One day we must build a business with this,” I eventually told the head of Cassava Fintech International. “Why don’t we set up a group that plays around with it, until we know enough to try something.”
So… we created Cassava Blockchain!
Fast Forward:
“Chairman, we have been developing an App on Sasai which will help people who want to be tested” said one of my Cassava executives. “We have a presentation."
The idea they presented to me was simple enough: An App which you can download when you go for a Covid-19 test, and you can then share the result with third parties of your own selection. Perhaps, for instance, you need to get on a plane, or to share your current status with your co-workers.
“What if the person has used a fake test?” I asked, concerned.
The guys smiled: “Chairman, we are going to use a Blockchain ledger that can track every single test kit, and result. It’s impossible to fake the test!”
This is how the Health Status Report (HSR) was born a few months ago, as we grappled to come up with tools to fight the pandemic outbreak.
The underlying technology on our Health Status Report is blockchain, and it works just like a BitCoin! We are so excited that we have developed a unique solution that we have instructed our lawyers to file for a patent. Meanwhile we must dash to get it to market to help as many people as possible to avoid infections!
We have begun a pan-African roll out of HSR this week. We have earmarked to start first in Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Burundi and Rwanda. We hope to have it in all countries who need it by the end of July. You can use the App anywhere in the world, and we are already planning Version 2.0!
