At the counter seats of Sanpou Nishimuraya Honten, the gentle glow of the traditional irori (sunken hearth) sets the stage. Prepared dynamically right before your eyes are the vibrant, seasonal ingredients nurtured by Tajima's brief but brilliant summer.
Freshly caught local seafood and organic vegetables bursting with the energy of the summer sun are grilled to perfection. The crackle of the charcoal and the savory aromas draw out the pure, natural umami of each ingredient.
Experience the lively art of summer Japanese cuisine as you watch our chefs at work. We invite you to enjoy this sensory dining experience unique to this season.

August 21. Summer in Kinosaki turns into light and travels down the river.
The Kinosaki Onsen Toro-nagashi lantern floating begins at 7:00 p.m. at the riverside site on Kita-Yanagi Street.
Then at 9:00 p.m., great blossoms of fireworks bring the evening to its close.
Lanterns and fireworks meet on the same night only once a year.
If you will be floating a lantern at seven, dine a little earlier with us.
Tajima beef, given a delicate hand with the charcoal at the irori, alongside the summer bounty of the Sea of Japan.
The gifts of Tajima, eaten in Tajima — a single plate of shindo-fuji.
A night that clears both body and mind. We hope you will spend this one with us.

The whole of Kinosaki Onsen is a single ryokan — a traditional Japanese inn.
The station is its entrance. The willow-lined street, its corridor. The seven public bathhouses, its bath.
Walk it in a yukata and geta, and the stone paving answers back.
On nights when light drifts down the Otani River, the arched taiko-bashi fills with the silhouettes of people who have stopped to watch.
Sanpou Nishimuraya Honten stands within this scene, unchanged for a hundred years.
Charcoal glows in the irori. Tajima beef, given a delicate hand with the fire, alongside the summer bounty of the Sea of Japan.
Not what has been carried in from far away, but what belongs to this place, eaten in this place.
Shindo-fuji — this is the backbone of our menu.
After dinner, step straight out to the riverside.
Time that clears both body and mind continues just beyond our door.
🍽 Reservations via the link in bio (TableCheck), accepted up to the day before.

Kinosaki Onsen Yume-Hanabi begins on July 30.
A signature sight of summer in Kinosaki, the fireworks color both the night sky and the surface of the Otani River.
Spend the yūsuzumi hour before them — the cool of a summer evening — with us at Sanpou Nishimuraya Honten.
Tajima beef finished over charcoal at the irori hearth, and the seafood of summer: a meal to savor slowly.
What the sea and mountains of Tajima have raised, eaten here in Tajima — shindo-fuji, the idea that body and earth are not two, set directly on the plate.
Eat. Walk. Soak in an outdoor bath. Look up.
A summer night in Kinosaki that clears both body and mind.

Lush green rice paddies swaying gently in the summer breeze of Tajima.
Grown using the eco-friendly "Stork Natural Rice Farming" method, our rice is nurtured by crystal-clear water and the stark temperature difference between day and night, ripening into fragrant grains by
autumn.
Behind every single grain of rice lies this beautiful scenery.
"Shindo-fuji" — the belief that body and land are one.
We invite you to savor the rich blessings of Tajima's terroir at Sanpou Nishimuraya Honten.

What does “Sanpou” mean?
The word "Sanpou” references a traditional Japanese creed of shared value & corporate responsibility known as “sanpou yoshi" (san-poh yo-shh).
It is also a local reference to the guardian deity of Kinosaki Onsen called "Sanpokojin”.
We invite all guests to relax amidst the serene atmosphere of Kinosaki Onsen at Sanpou Nishimuraya.
It is our mission to both honor the rich past of Nishimuraya as well as build a bright new future.
