🎮 Today was Game Day!

Today, we played both Nintendo Switch and board games together. What made the session interesting was how naturally different kinds of Japanese came out depending on the game. Participants used Japanese to explain rules, discuss strategies, react to unexpected moves, and negotiate with each other.

Some participants were meeting for the first time, so games also became an easy starting point for conversation. Instead of practicing prepared phrases, everyone had to respond to what was happening in real time.

There were plenty of laughs, surprising plays, and serious strategy discussions! 😂🎲

It was a great example of how games can create genuine communication while learning Japanese. 🇯🇵✨

Hi This is Yuna
The first part of today's session was a Japanese-only café.☕Since I was chatting with people from all over the world, the conversation turned to the topic of flying✈️—specifically, travel and trips back home. I’ve never been abroad myself, but hearing about flight connections—which sounded like a mix of fun and hassle—was quite an eye-opener.🧳 Long-distance travel is certainly tough☹️

Two beginners played shogi together! ♟️
They kept playing the whole time and didn’t finish even by closing time. They were so focused! 😳🔥
From now on, I think beginners should play with someone who already knows how to play, rather than having two beginners play together. I also learned a lot about how to run and manage the activity! ☺️✨

Hi it's Araya!
We had an action-packed Japanese language event filled with fun games and lots of laughter today!

We started with a Japanese drawing & word association game, where everyone guessed words through pictures in Japanese.

Then we played reversi while answering Japanese quiz questions, making it a great way to practice the language while having fun!

We also enjoyed playing Nintendo Switch games together, and the excitement kept going all day long.
It was a wonderful day full of Japanese, games, new friendships, and unforgettable memories. Thank you to everyone who joined us—we hope to see you at the next event!

Where are all the trash cans in Japan?! 🗑️👀

If you’ve ever walked around Tokyo with an empty coffee cup for 30 minutes, you know the struggle! It’s one of the most common questions visitors and expats ask when they arrive: "Why are there almost NO public garbage cans, but the streets are still so clean?!"

💡 Pro-Tip for Living in Japan:
Always keep a small plastic bag in your backpack for your trash until you get home (or find a recycling bin next to a vending machine for your empty cans/bottles)!

Stop Saying "-Youbi" Every Single Time! 🛑🗓️

When native Japanese speakers recite the whole week, we don't say the full names! We use this fast 7-word chant instead:

🗣️ "GETSU - KA - SUI - MOKU - KIN - DO - NICHI!"

If you're talking about just weekdays (Monday through Friday), just cut it at Friday:

🗣️ "Getsu - Ka - Sui - Moku - Kin!" 💼✨

It sounds like a catchy rhythm game for your tongue! 🎵

Kore, Sore, Are: How to Point Things Out in Japanese! 👈👉

Struggling to remember "Kore", "Sore", and "Are"? It all comes down to distance between you and the listener!

👉 Kore (This) = Close to YOU (the speaker)

👉 Sore (That) = Close to THE LISTENER

👉 Are (That over there) = Far from BOTH OF YOU

Examples:
• Kore wa hon desu. (This is a book — in my hand)

• Sore wa nan desu ka? (What is that? — in your hand)

• Are wa Fuji-san desu. (That over there is Mt. Fuji — far away)

💡 Pro Tip: To ask "Which one?", just say "Dore?"! 🧠✨
