Jamaica Backgammon The Administrative Page for backgammon tournaments that is administered by the Jamaica Backgammon Association. We completed one tournament at Jamaica Inn.

The next one planned is the Jamaica International Backgammon Championship schedule for September 28 to October 2 at Bamboo Blu in Mammee Bay, Ocho Rios. Tournament History in Jamaica
First major tournament held at Countryside Club in 1995. In early 2000s, Spanish Court Hotel and Strawberry Hill hosted tournaments.
100 hosted tournaments in 2017 & 2018. Grog Shoppe and CRU hosted pre-tournament ga

mes. The Jamaica Open International moved to Jamaica Inn in 2016. The Jamaica International Backgammon Championship began in 2022 at Bamboo Blu in Mammee Bay, Ocho Rios. Pre-tournament games are held on Tuesday evenings at Chez Maria’s rooftop garden restaurant.

William "Sensei" Mahfood congratulates John Issa, the youngest play,17, to win the championship and a favorite with the crowd. After beating Philippa Lightbourn in a nail-biter, John John, as he is affectionately known, powered through a final that saw the cube playing a major role. That meant a final won with only six games played., a record in this tournament. Congrats John John!

William Mahfood wondering who would be the winner in the semis and his opponent in the final. John John Issa beat Philippa Lightbourn (warm-up tournament winner) in the Championship semi final and is now about to play Mahfood, know popularly as Sensei in backgammon circles. William has won the Championship at Jamaica Inn once before and several times in other tournaments in Jamaica.
