In 2020, with the onset of the global pandemic, Chef Akeen Matthews decided to take a leap of faith. He began selling his meals to his colleagues at work and was motivated by the response. He eventually decided to open a restaurant to fill this gap in the market and hence came the beginning of Tawah!

In 2014, Chef Akeen Matthews came to Jamaica from Guyana to study medicine at the University of the West Indies, Mona. While living on hall, he spent a lot of time whipping up some delicious trini meals for his friends and himself; some of these meals you have all come to know and love today! What can we say, our chef is a superhero in both worlds.
