Un po' di storia...

La storia del caffè si perde tra le leggende, creando un’atmosfera di mistero che ben si adatta al suo aroma particolare.

La più conosciuta risale al VII secolo e ci porta fino in Etiopia: il pastore Kaldi scopre le sue capre vagabondare piene di energia anche di notte, dopo averle viste mangiare certe bacche rosse. Incuriosito l’uomo porta i semi in un monastero, dove vengono abbrustoliti, macinati e mescolati in acqua bollente, creando così una bevanda che aiuta i monaci a combattere il sonno durante le preghiere notturne. È l’inizio di una serie numerosissima di leggende, tramandate nei secoli per arrivare fino ai giorni nostri.

Diffuso poi in Europa all’inizio del ‘600 dai mercanti veneziani, divenne la bevanda preferita di poeti, scrittori e uomini d’affari.

Some hints of history...

The history of coffee is lost in the mist of legends and creates an atmosphere of mystery which perfectly suits its peculiar aroma.

The best-known story dates back to the 7th century and takes us as far away as Ethiopia. A goatherd whose name was Kaldi once discovered his goats roaming even at night. They were full of energ after he noticed them eating some particular red berries. Even more curious, the man brought the seeds to a monastery where they were roasted, ground and mixed with boiling water, thus creating a beverage which helped the monks ward off sleep during nighttime prayers. It was the beginning of a series of several legends, handed down over the centuries till our modern times.

Popularised in Europe in the early 1600s by some Venetian merchants, it became the favourite beverage of poets, writers and businessmen.
