Having some regrets!

I loved my dress when I went and got it but now I'm having some regrets. I fear it's too late to change but just needing some positive validation I made a good choice. I knew I didn't want anything super big or puffy but now I see all of these corset looks that I wish I would have tried more of

Dress alterations saga!

So you all helped me pick my dream dress back in October, so makes sense that I seek help again now that I’m in alterations hell. So here’s the story:

I got my dress delivered early April 2026 for my wedding in early July. When I went to my first fitting they told me they ordered the dress and entire size too small. 2 inches too SMALL in rib/bust area and 2 inches to BIG at the waist. I have multiple measurements from that time and now that prove that my measurements have not changed since I ordered the dress. After a long discussion and live Teams call with the designer herself, we decided to send the dress back to the manufacturer, they would altar it and send it back with added material since the dress had zero seam allowance.

Fast forward to this week 5/26/26, I go back to alterations with the “fixed” dress. Now the dress can close but it is 6 inches too big in the waist. There’s no accessible seams on the side so it all has to be taken in the back with is very difficult per the seamstress. The tightest she had me in the dress pinned, it was falling off of me when I lifted my arms to which she replied “this is not a dancing dress, it’s not going to fit with arms up and down”. It’s at alterations now and my next fitting 6/9. I’m just starting to feel hopeless. Should I just start looking for another dress in case? Feels like I’m running out of time.

I’ve attached a photo of the dress when I first got it too small. I don’t have one of the current state of the dress as the seamstress took the picture on her phone.

Dress too tight… or am I just overthinking this? 😭

I genuinely can’t tell if this is one of those “it fits perfectly” situations or one of those “it technically fits, but something looks off” situations.

My seamstress keeps telling me it fits like a glove and says the pull lines are just because of the fabric and the structured, form-fitting style of the dress. She doesn’t seem worried at all. But I can definitely see some pulling, especially around the waist where there’s also a little bunching, and now I can’t stop staring at it.

I even asked if it could be let out slightly to smooth things out more, and she basically said it would be extremely difficult, if not impossible.

The confusing part is that it doesn’t actually feel tight. I can breathe comfortably, move around normally, and even zip it myself without struggling. So physically it feels fine… but visually I keep questioning it.

Now I’m wondering if this is just how structured fitted gowns naturally look on a real body, or if this is a sign that it technically fits but isn’t laying as smoothly as it should.

Would you trust the seamstress and leave it alone, or would you still push for changes even if she says there’s not much that can be done?

I think I’m officially having second thoughts about my dress 😭

At first I loved how simple, elegant, and timeless it felt. But now the closer the wedding gets, the more I keep wondering if it’s too plain and if I should have chosen something with a little more detail or drama.

Part of me loves that it feels classy and very “me,” but another part keeps worrying that I’ll regret not choosing something more eye-catching or traditionally bridal.

Did anyone else go through this with a simpler dress? Be honest… does simple read elegant, or does it feel underwhelming?

Can this be altered ?

I found an amazing second hand wedding dress for a good price, and I am trying very hard not to get emotionally attached before I know if it can actually be altered.

Everything about it is perfect.

It is a structured bodice princess gown, exactly the kind of dress I wanted. The style is beautiful, the price is great, and it feels like one of those rare finds that you do not come across twice.

But the back is too small and it will not zip up.

That is the only issue.

Of course, it is a pretty important issue.

I keep wondering if this is something a good seamstress could fix by adding a lace-up corset back, ribbon panel, or some kind of equivalent alteration. I know wedding dresses can sometimes be altered pretty dramatically, but I also know structured dresses can be tricky, and I do not want to assume something is possible just because I want it to be.

I have messaged a few seamstresses and I am waiting to hear back, but I wanted to ask people who may have gone through this before.

Has anyone bought a wedding dress that was too small in the back and had it converted successfully?

Was it worth it?

Or is a dress that does not zip one of those “beautiful but risky” situations?

Dress insecurity

I guess I need some reassurance that others have gone through these feelings and that its normal and will pass. I found my dress and love it but I'm also someone who loves to explore all options and therefore sometimes don't know when to stop.

I have a tight budget and so options are limited in finding a reasonably priced dress in nyc. I was generally going for a whimsical look and was put in one that I really liked but was ultimately way out of budget. I tried this one on and liked it but when we added the sleeves and belt I really felt it was it.

Can I please get some reassurance that this dress is beautiful and looks good on me because now im second gueasing myself? My family didn't necessarily have the reaction I expected but I did feel and think "this one is it" when I tried it on a second time.

Also if anyone has suggestions for belts, veins, or even hairstyles since I wouldn't even know how to begin adding some bling/pizzaz to this one as I wasn't expecting to love a dress of this design.

Sincerely, Slightly overwhelmed second guessing bride

What can you say about my wedding dress?

What’s your opinion on this dress? Belt on the second photo is still not final, we’re still looking for a crystal belt that I think will suit better. Getting married in 2 weeks but need some reassurance with this dress

Dress regret :/ I feel like there is a lot going on with this dress. Am I overthinking?

I absolutely LOVE the lace of the bottom half of the dress. It’s very light and romantic and it’s my favorite part of the dress. I started to get worried about the top part lace which is different. I worried that it did not mesh with the bottom half and that the top was too much with the sparkles and different lace (definitely a hyper critical observation). And yes to the friends comment I agree. I remember getting worried that the dress didn’t have that wow factor. I know my fiancé will definitely love it and it makes me giddy to think of him seeing me and loving the dress!

Question! 🙋‍♀️

So I need alterations on this dress. David’s bridal quoted me $500 to steam the dress so it’s not wrinkly, hem the length, and sew on my straps. I have also decided I want the waist brought in tighter as well, the dress is just a bit too big and I feel like it makes me look boxy. When pulled tight I love the way it looks. Does anyone know if the price quoted with David’s bridal is a good price or not? Also how much more should I be expecting to pay with bringing in the waist? I definitely didn’t anticipate alterations being so much. I am also considering not bringing in the waist if it’s too much more. Thanks! 🙏

Vintage Dress Alterations

I just bought this late 1940s/50s wedding dress that needs alterations to widen the waist, likely from the sleeves or removing the train or extra fabric from where they would have worn a hoop. Because of course she was built like a Barbie doll 🫣 and it has a 22” waist. The photos of course do not do it justice at all. I tried it on alone, held together by chip clips in my apartment so it takes some vision as to what it should actually look like! I am definitely wearing it incorrectly because I couldn’t get it on all the way hoisted up and I was worried I would rip it

Questions:

1. For those who have done something like this, was the price so exorbitant that I should just expect to go bankrupt altering it? Also how did you find someone who wouldn’t ruin an old dress?

2. Does it look too dated in a way that would not be flattering if I did not want to lean allll the way in with full 50s attire?

Additions Needed?

I've found my dress and I absolutely love it! It feels elegant and classic to me. The gorgeous pearl encrusted bodice does all the heavy lifting to make this dress absolutely stunning. I'd appreciate feedback on two questions though.

I'm wondering whether to deepen/widen the plunge neckline to amp it up a tad bit when I have additional boning and structure added to the bodice to help keep everything in place.

Would you wear any jewelry with this? I don't want to pull visual focus from either me or the dress by adding too much else.
