Sonmat è un’espressione coreana che si traduce letteralmente come “sapore delle mani”. Nasce dall’unione di due termini: son (손), “mano”, e mat (맛), “sapore” o “gusto”, e indica il tocco irripetibile e personale che chi cucina imprime ai suoi piatti. Riflette l’esperienza intima e quotidiana di un pasto delizioso, preparato con cura, affetto e maestria da un* cuoc*. A volte si colora di commozione e nostalgia: è il sapore del cibo di casa, che prende forma e incanta solo grazie alla sapienza unica delle mani dei nonni o dei genitori.

Sonmat is a Korean expression that literally translates as “the taste of hands.” It comes from the combination of son (손) = “hand,” and mat (맛) = “flavor” or “taste”, and refers to the unique, personal touch a cook brings to their dishes. It reflects the intimate, everyday experience of a delicious meal, prepared with care, affection, and skill. At times, it carries a hint of emotion and nostalgia: it is the taste of home cooking, which comes alive and enchants only through the singular wisdom of the hands of grands or parents.
