Beneath Naples lies an extraordinary secret: a vast subterranean museum of contemporary art. The “Art Stations” were born from the collaboration of internationally renowned architects, designers and artists and are home to more than 300 works. From the starry mosaics of Toledo station to the millennia-old remains of the Roman harbour incorporated into the Municipio archaeological station, Naples Metro’s Art Stations have become true icons of the city.

The monumental Chiaia station connects two levels of the city. Designed by architect Uberto Siola and enriched by Peter Greenaway’s visionary artistic intervention, the structure is a majestic sequence of overlapping geometric volumes — a cylinder, a cube, an octagonal prism and a hemispherical dome. This bold architecture creates a spectacular vertical connection between the main entrance in Piazza Santa Maria degli Angeli and the lower entrance on Via Chiaia, capturing natural light and guiding it all the way down to platform level.
