From Friuli to Sicily, one table took us on a journey through Italy.
Last night, with Donnafugata, we reached the final destination of this season’s journey.

From Livio Felluga in Friuli to some of Italy’s most remarkable w**eries, all the way south to Sicily. Different territories, stories and w**es, brought together around one table in the heart of Cilento.

Closing with Donnafugata meant something particularly special to us and personally to Alberto. Beyond the extraordinary w**es, we have always looked at Donnafugata as a beacon for Southern Italy: an example of how deeply rooted identity can become contemporary, speak to the world and bring an entire territory far beyond its borders.

In many ways, there is a lot we have learned and still learn, from their story.

Thank you to Alessandro Lodico from Donnafugata for guiding us through their w**es and history; to W**e&Thecity , our partners throughout this journey; and to Maria Sarnataro and AIS Cilento e Vallo di Diano for accompanying us with their knowledge and passion throughout the season.

And, of course, thank you to everyone who shared our table along the way. 🤍

This is Cilento and yes, it really looks like this.
September looks pretty beautiful from this corner of Southern Italy. 🌊

The Marine Protected Area of Costa degli Infreschi e della Masseta — where the Cilento mountains fall straight into the Mediterranean, between hidden coves, sea caves and incredibly clear water.

September is one of our favourite times to experience this part of Cilento: the sea is still warm, the coast becomes quieter, and summer seems to last just a little longer.

Exploring it from the sea with our friends at 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐨𝐚𝐭𝐬 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 | 𝐄𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐢 𝐢𝐧 𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐚 𝐚 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐨 is one of the experiences we recommend most to our guests.

Oggi festeggiamo il cuore del Convento Francescano. 🤍
Buon compleanno, Chef Patrizia.

Probabilmente lei preferirebbe non essere nemmeno in questo post — non ha mai amato particolarmente farsi vedere, tantomeno sui social. Ma la verità è che senza di lei, molto probabilmente, non ci sarebbe neanche un Convento da raccontare.

Patrizia è il cuore della nostra cucina, ma è soprattutto molto di più.

La sua esperienza, la sua intelligenza, la sua forza e quella capacità quasi disarmante di trovare una soluzione quando sembra non essercene una sono dentro ogni cosa che abbiamo costruito. Ha dato a due ragazzi innamorati la possibilità di credere in un sogno enorme e poi si è messa al nostro fianco, ogni giorno, per aiutarci a renderlo reale.

A 18 anni ha lasciato la Puglia per cercare un futuro diverso in Lombardia. Lì ha incontrato Dante, con lui ha costruito una famiglia e una vita piena di soddisfazioni, senza mai perdere ciò che la rende la persona che è: la semplicità, il lavoro, l’onestà prima di tutto verso se stessa e poi verso gli altri, e un amore enorme per la propria famiglia.

Forse essere una donna forte significa proprio questo. Non dover fare tutto da sola, ma saper prendere l’amore costruito in una vita — quello per Dante, per la propria famiglia, per ciò in cui si crede — e trasformarlo in qualcosa di concreto. In cura, lavoro, coraggio. In un futuro migliore per le persone che ami.

Oggi tanti dei nostri ospiti si innamorano del Sud Italia attraverso la sua cucina. Noi sappiamo, però, che quello che Patrizia ha dato e continua a dare al Convento va molto oltre i fornelli.

Siamo fieri di te.
Alberto come figlio, e Alberto e Maria Chiara per il privilegio di costruire tutto questo insieme a te.

In 2006, Alberto’s father, Dante, bought this palm-woven sculpture by Egyptian artist Ahmed Askalany in Milan.

He chose the donkey knowing its connection to Cuccaro Vetere, his hometown, where it is a symbol of the village.

Above it sit three figures, two adults and a child. Over the years, we have inevitably come to see a little of our own family in them.
Almost twenty years later, when we won the tender for Convento Francescano, there was never really a question about where it belonged.
It was one of the very first pieces we brought here.

Today, it is one of the artworks our guests and photographers notice most. But for Alberto and Patrizia, it carries something much more personal: a piece chosen by Dante, now living in the place where his roots and ours began.

L’ultimo viaggio della stagione di The W**e Table ci porta in Sicilia.

Sabato 12 settembre, al Convento Francescano, incontriamo Donnafugata , una delle cantine che più hanno contribuito a raccontare nel mondo la ricchezza e le tante anime del vino siciliano.

Per una sera, Cilento e Sicilia si incontrano attorno a un’unica tavola.

Cinque vini ci accompagneranno in un viaggio attraverso l’isola: dall’Etna vulcanico di Bollicina Gold e Isolano, alla Sicilia sud-orientale di Floramundi, fino a Mille e una Notte e alla viticoltura eroica di Pantelleria raccontata dal Ben Ryé.

A ciascun calice, una portata dell’Osteria del Convento, costruita come sempre a partire dalla nostra cucina e dai prodotti del territorio.

The sun rises a little softer over the old stone, the mornings become quieter, and the Convento slowly begins to change its rhythm.

August may be ending today, but perhaps this is when one of the most beautiful times in Cilento begins.

Long breakfasts. Empty roads. Quiet villages. Warm days and cooler evenings. The sea still carrying the memory of summer.

A slower season is about to begin,
and we might love it even more.

And a little piece of Cilento, now travelling all the way to the Netherlands. 🇳🇱

We are incredibly happy to be part of the latest issue of Smaak van Italië, with a beautiful multi-page journey through Cilento: its ancient villages, wild coastline, traditions, food and the people choosing to preserve and give new life to this extraordinary land.

Among those pages, there is also a little piece of our story: Convento Francescano, Cuccaro Vetere, our family, and the idea of a different kind of luxuryc made of space, silence, authenticity and a slower way of living.
