As autumn wanders in, we must bid a fond farewell to the many street performers who graced our piazze this summer. From musicians to bronze statues, to those that levitate above the ground, we've seen a whole host of talented and entertaining performers this year.

Walking the streets of Como always proves to be a magical experience thanks to these hard-working professionals.

So we say farewell, we will see you next summer!

If there is one museum you visit while in Como, we highly recommend the Pinacoteca di Palazzo Volpi. This museum houses a collection of Early Medieval and Romanesque sculptures with masterpieces coming from different religious building of Como. In addition, the gallery houses a fine collection of paintings executed from the 14th to 20th century, sculptures and examples of glass window decoration and miniatures. Among the highlights of the modern art section are the sculptures and paintings of the abstract artists from the "Gruppo Como" and the drawings of the futurist architect Antonion Sant' Elia. An absolutely fantastic and interesting collection for art lovers.

Como has three distinguished museums worth visiting: Pinacoteca di Palazzo Volpi, the Civic Museum and the Volta Museum.

This weekend Como celebrates European Heritage Days. Each year, along with other European countries, Italy participates in the initiative. conceived in 1991 by the Council of Europe and the European Commission. The program’s aim is to strengthen and foster cultural dialogue and exchange between European countries.

Como's museums will open to the public from 9:00 PM - midnight on Saturday, September 20 and Sunday September 21.
Admission is free on Saturday, September 20th..

Como’s Archaeological Museum and Historic Museum will be open from 9:00 PM to midnight. From 9-10 PM, there is a workshop for children ages 12 and older: Look, Click and Watch. This program is free with required reservations. (To make reservations call: 031/252550) Note: The Look, Click and Watch program requires a smartphone or tablet.

Como's Civic Art Museum (Pinacoteca Civica) will be open from 9:00 PM to midnight and a guided tour of the exhibition is available from 10:15 PM – 11:15 PM

Volta Museum (Tempio Voltiano) will be open from 9:00 PM to midnight.

Two free guided tours of the Casa del Fascio, will take place at 4:00PM and at 4.30 PM. Maximum 25 people per tour. Meeting point: Piazza del Popolo.

You can tour the Monumento ai Caduti; meeting point Viale Puecher. (Reservations required: by 7:00 PM TODAY! September 19th

The Silk Museum will have special hours from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with a guided tour at 4:30 PM. Admission fee: 4 euro.

This is a great opportunity for residents and visitors to enjoy the lovely museums and monuments in Como.

When walking along the Como promenade toward Villa Olmo, you will pass many beautiful villas. One, in particular, stands out majestically. Villa Saporiti.
This neo-classical villa, was built by architect Leopold Pollack between 1790 and 1793. Napoleon, Isabel Queen of Naples, Ferdinand I of Austria and Tsar Alexander are just of few of the many guests who visited the property. In 1950, the last owner, Marquis Rocca Saporiti, sold the property to the Provincial Administration which made it its institutional seat.

Today is the Grand Historic Parade of Barbarossa starting at 3:30PM. The parade will consist of numerous citizen dressed in medieval costumes and, of course, Emperor Barbarossa and Emperess Beatrice. Starting from Piazzale dell'Ippocastano, the parade will make its way through the streets of Como to piazza Cavour following this route: via Aldo Moro, XX Settembre, via Milano, Piazza Vittoria, via Cesare Cantu, via Giovio, via Vittorio Emanuele, and through piazza del Duomo. There will be a "tug-of-war" contest between the participating borghi and the winner of the Palio will be presented the drappellone.

Buongiorno ~ breakfast is served! Many of our guests rave about our delicious breakfast buffet. So, we thought we would share what all the compliments are about. Our copious buffet features assorted coffees, teas, and juices, along with fresh fruit, meats, cheeses, an assortment of breads, cereals and cakes.

Just as a reminder our buffet is available June through September only. However, our snack bar is open year-round where guests can enjoy excellent coffee, pastries, sandwiches or pizzas.

Plan your visit to In Riva Al Lago now for the 6th annual autumn exposition of flowers and rare plants. It’s happening October 3, 4, and 5, 2014, in Villa Erba’s lakeside park. You can enjoy three days of charm and fascination with, "Olfactory Visions," a visit that will accompany you inside the ancient and most primal of the all the senses: smell. In addition to gardens set up, there will be demonstrations on flower arrangement and workshops for kids. This exposition is being put on for charitable purposes.

Today, the Palio del Baradello "Oath Ceremony" took place in Piazza San Fedele, A colorful, energetic program with flag wavers and pomp. The Duke and Duchess of each "borgo" (neighborhood) presented their captain with a sword and shield and each captain took the oath of the Palio.
