Burg Hohenzollern (Hohenzollern Castle), located on Mount Hohenzollern in the Swabian Jura of Baden-Württemberg - Germany. Burg Hohenzollern has evolved through three distinct iterations on its mountaintop site over nearly a millennium. The original medieval fortress was built in the early 11th century but was completely destroyed in 1423 after a ten-month siege. A second, larger fortress was completed in 1461 to serve as a vital stronghold during the Thirty Years' War, though it eventually fell into neglect and ruin by the late 18th century. The striking current castle was constructed between 1850 and 1867 by King Frederick William IV of Prussia as a romantic family monument celebrating the neo-Gothic style, and it remains the ancestral seat of the House of Hohenzollern today. 🇩🇪
