Why did we name it MODAK? 🪷
The name Modak (मोदक) comes from Sanskrit and carries a beautiful connection with joy, happiness and delight. Sanskrit dictionaries give modaka meanings including “delighting,” “causing happiness,” and also the sweetmeat itself.
The word also has a deep place in Puranic tradition.
In the Bhavishya Purāṇa, modakas are explicitly mentioned as offerings to Ganesha:
गणेशे कारयेत्पूजां मोदकादिभिरादरात् ।
gaṇeśe kārayet pūjāṃ modakādibhir ādarāt
The verse describes worshipping Ganesha with modakas and other offerings, particularly on Chaturthi.
The Padma Purāṇa also contains the well-known story in which a divine modaka is given to Ganesha, and the episode becomes connected with his being honoured first in worship.
So for us, MODAK is more than the name of a sweet.
It represents a simple idea:
Food should give us something beyond hunger.
A moment of happiness.
A moment of connection.
A small experience of bliss.
MODAK
A small part of bliss.
And that is why we chose this name. 🪷
