Doi Mishti

Doi Mishti Serving Endless Sweetness THE HISTORY BEHIND BENGALI SWEETS. West Bengal the easterly state is considered to be the cultural capital of India.

They are infectiously passionate about their culture and few things unite them more than their passion for food, especially sweets. An assorted range of sweets are found in every Bengali household and are an essential to a complete meal. Bengal which was also known as "Gour Banga" got its name for abundant production of Gur. Sweet was invented experimentally out of sheer necessity from chhanna (co

ttage cheese) made out of the unsold milk which would turn sour. To make it palatable, molasses and sugar were mixed with it to form a paste. This uneven soft paste was called "Makha", is the precursor of today's sandesh and the extremely popular Roshogolla. Other fried flour products soaked in sheera (sugar syrup) namely Goja, Jilipi, Khaja, etc soon came into being. Doi Mishti brings to you the same authenticity learnt from our older generations to cater to everyone with a sweet tooth. Today Bengali sweets have become popular not in the Bengali community but also among foreigners who cannot resist the temptation of having them at banquet helping us Serving Endless Sweetness to every occasion.
