Saladin liberated Jerusalem on 2 October 1187 after defeating the Crusaders at the & Battle of Hattin. He ended 88 years of Crusader rule and restored Muslim control over & Masjid al-Aqsa, ordering its cleansing and resumption of Friday prayers. His surrender terms allowed Christian civilians to ransom themselves safely, with many poor freed at his own expense
The victory marked a defining moment in Islamic history and showcased Saladinβs reputation for mercy and chivalry. He ruled Jerusalem until his death in 1193, and his leadership remains a symbol of unity across the Arab and Muslim world
