Have tried our mango salad yet ?
Yeh koi Aam baat nahi - the Mango speaks out.
The farmer battles unpredictable weather, water shortage and declining soil health to grow the Mango. All he hopes for is a good harvest and a decent price for the produce. The money generated from it goes towards the education, health and food for the family. There is no money to sponsor medical or nutrition conferences, to rope in actors, chefs and other influencers to be their brand ambassadors or spokesperson. There is no association of farmers and if they do have one, they are not influential or backed by governments and industries. And so for years we have believed that not just the mango but almost all our local fruits like seetaphal, banana, jackfruit, chickoo, grapes, etc., are bad for us.
But nutrition scientists now say that patronising local food is important for public health, local economy and global ecology. Want to lose weight and get rid of your diabetes? Get off your seats, switch off your phones, close your eyes and bite into the Mango. Aam karta hai sab gile shikve maaf.
And if you can’t eat it without knowing “benefits”, here goes -
- Rich in Vit B6, folic acid and Vit K - leads to an improvement of both brain and bone health. Also, works as a natural BP regulator.
- Rich in antioxidants like zeaxanthin, carotenes, etc., - protects the eyes, reduces inflammation and prevents pimples and acne marks.
- Rich in soluble fibres like pectin - regulates digestion, blood sugars and cholesterol.
