ॐ को जागर्ति इति लक्ष्मीः शुक्लपक्षे निशामुखे ।
जागर्त्यहमिह प्रीता ददामि च धनं शुभम् ॥
Kojagiri Purnima, also called Sharad Purnima, is a night dedicated to the blessings of Mahalakshmi Mata and Lord Vishnu. It is believed that on this full moon night, Goddess Lakshmi descends to earth to bless her devotees with wealth, health, and happiness, while Lord Vishnu protects those blessings. The moonlight is said to carry a divine nectar, making the night sacred for both spiritual upliftment and physical well-being.
On this occasion, families perform Lakshmi puja, worship the moon, and prepare sweet kesar dryfruit milk or doodh-pohā, or rice kheer which is kept under the moonlight. People stay awake the whole night, as it is believed Maa Lakshmi asks “Ko jagarti?” (Who is awake?), and blesses the homes that welcome her with devotion. In Maharashtra, it is celebrated with doodh-pohā, in Bengal with Lakshmi Puja, and in North India it is linked with Lord Krishna’s Raas Leela — making Kojagiri a festival of prosperity, devotion, and divine joy across India.
In Gujarat, Kojagiri Purnima is celebrated with moonlit puja, kesar milk, and joyful Garba, welcoming Maa Lakshmi’s blessings. 🌙✨
In South India, Sharad Pournami is marked with moonlit puja, bhajans, and milk offerings, seeking blessings of Lord Vishnu and Maa Lakshmi. 🌙✨
