A chalkboard of where we come from. 🌊
At Bahār, even the smallest details are rarely just decoration.
This board came together through two incredibly thoughtful, curious and multi-layered humans minds that continue to learn, evolve and reveal themselves a little more with time. (Prathmesh & Atharva)
And perhaps that is why they didn’t simply draw food.
They drew memory.
Goa. Konkan. Childhood. Mum’s cooking. Fish curry rice. Cafreal. Fish fry. Ros omelette. Soul kadhi. Seafood. Matcha. Coconut trees and coastlines.
Food that doesn’t need to shout to be remembered.
And somewhere amongst their own memories, they chose to thoughtfully make room for one of mine.
A little house each year from Faro a place by the Portuguese shore that became home to me and taught me so much about simplicity.
About rustic food made memorable not by excess, but by intention. About ingredients being allowed to taste like themselves. About stories exchanged across tables. And, somewhere along the way, my rather serious fondness for tuna. :)
So this board quietly connects shores that may be thousands of kilometres apart Goa, Konkan and Portugal through something wonderfully universal:
food made from memory.
And then, quite perfectly, there’s our newest little addition, Monk’d.
Clean, beautifully made ice creams that found their place at Bahār rather naturally.
My personal loyalties currently lie with tender coconut, sitaphal and dark chocolate almond.
No diplomatic answer there.
So the next time you're here, pause at this board.
Look closely. Take a photograph. Find a detail that reminds you of somewhere or someone.
Pick a new favourite from the specials and tell us what you think.
Because perhaps the most important ingredient in everything we make will never appear on a menu, is Niyat.
Good intention.
Thoughtfulness.
Care.
And while you're here, be kind. Be empathetic.
To our team, to the person at the next table, and to the humans you meet after you leave.
It costs very little.
But much like good food, it can stay with someone long after the moment has passed.
Love,
Bahār 🌊
