We all have seen, heard of, eaten, craved and maybe even swore by it. But does anyone know who invented it or where the almighty hummus was originally made? The simple answer is… No! Not really. Although, some articles cite historical sources dating back to the 13th century in Egypt where it was documented that hummus (or a similar variation) was first made and consumed. Since then, all Mediterranean countries have claimed it to be there’s and till today the battle continues regarding who makes the best hummus! Eventually, this simple to make & nutritious food became the definitive essential in every mainstream restaurant, supermarket, and yes, even at home, around the world!
Hummus in Arabic translates to Chickpeas. The proper name is “Hummus bil Tahina”, literally translating, to “Hummus with Tahina”. Hummus is a fibre-rich superfood, high in plant-based protein & essential minerals and healthy oils. Did you know that the Tahini added contains high levels of vitamin E and works as an antioxidant?!
