🍞 The History of Bread – A Story Baked Through Time
Bread is one of the oldest and most essential foods in human history. Its origins date back over 10,000 years, when early humans began grinding grains, mixing them with water, and cooking the paste over fire to create simple flatbreads.
The first leavened (risen) bread is believed to have been made in Ancient Egypt, where natural yeast in the air caused dough to rise. This discovery changed bread forever, giving it the soft texture we love today.
Later, during the time of the Roman Empire, baking became a respected profession, and public bakeries were established. Bread became a daily staple for rich and poor alike.
In medieval Europe, white bread was considered a luxury for the wealthy, while darker, whole-grain bread was commonly eaten by the working class.
Today, bread comes in countless varieties—from sourdough to baguettes—and remains a symbol of nourishment, comfort, and community around the world. 🍞✨
