A little backstory:
was in touch with me for Kenrick’s birthday cake for a couple months. The theme was yet to be decided, but the date was booked.

When they zeroed in on the theme of the movie Madagascar, I almost fainted. If you know me, you know I’m into whimsical little baby animals. So replicating real animals seemed a bit daunting! We locked the design, and I sent him a photoshopped image of what to expect (Slide 2).
•
Armed with time and expertise, I started working on the animals from the 8th of April onwards, sitting for 4h each day, after work and outings and dinners, only to work on each animal when everything was quite around me, and try to make them look as similar to the original animated characters. (Slide 3, 4 & 5). Making Gloria (the hippo) was easy breezy though! Don’t miss Melman’s head needing some support to dry up!

On the day of - Apr 11th, I took my time to stack the cake (6kgs without the fondant), roll, measure, not right - do over; roll measure and cut out each panel for the crate, painted the crate, made the logos, make the logos and ensure each penguin has a different hand gesture, make a zillion leaves, place them - don’t like placement - do over - place leaves ; make the sea, and by the time I was done, Martin calls me and asks “Aren’t you coming?!”. Decked my cake, decked myself, prayed for us to reach on time, and made it JUST IN TIME to celebrate Kenrick’s first birthday ! (Slide 12 for Martin’s video)

To sum up, I ENJOYED THE PROCESS, I ENJOYED THE RUSH OF FINISHING, I ENJOYED THE END RESULT and couldn’t stop clicking pics and being in awe of my God given talent! Thank you Jesus and Dada for your graces. I hope the 2012 me is proud of how far I’ve come!
