Of flowers becoming pookalams, homes filling with laughter, and banana leaves turning into a feast. Of old traditions finding their way into new homes, and a celebration that somehow feels both deeply familiar and wonderfully alive.

When we started Mahabelly, we wanted to share the food and culture of Kerala with Delhi. But over the years, Onam has grown into something far more meaningful. It is a responsibility to do justice to a tradition that means so much to so many people, especially those who call Kerala home and those who carry a little bit of it with them wherever they go.

Every year, the scale gets bigger, the work gets harder and the expectations get higher. And yet, when the first banana leaf is laid and the first Sadhya is served, there’s a sense of pride that makes every bit of it worth it.

For 12 years, Delhi has trusted us with its Onam.

That is something I don’t take lightly.

I’m incredibly proud that Mahabelly gets to be a part of keeping this tradition alive, not just for a day, but for everyone who comes together to make it happen.

Twelve years ago, we set out to bring a little piece of Kerala’s Onam to Delhi.

What started as a Sadhya has, over the years, become something much bigger - a tradition we now look forward to every year.

It takes an entire community to make it happen. Our kitchen teams who work tirelessly behind the scenes, our service staff who make sure every leaf is served with care, our suppliers and partners, and most importantly, our patrons who return year after year and keep this tradition alive.

For twelve years, we’ve watched thousands of banana leaves being laid out, countless Sadhyas being served and generations of Delhi patrons come together around a meal that carries the stories, flavours and warmth of Kerala.

We are grateful and deeply so, that Delhi has given us the opportunity to celebrate Onam this way for twelve years. To cook our food, share our traditions and create a little bit of Kerala here, year after year.

Here’s to everyone who has been a part of our Onam story. This Sadhya belongs to all of us.
