SURVIVING A BUSINESS
10.06.2021 This is how the road in front of our unit looked. We’d just moved from a spare room in my house, to a new space, proud of the newly white washed space, tiny as it was. We’d even got potted plants for the tiny portico in front, new office tables and chairs instead of the dining table and chairs that masqueraded as our office space before. And then the monsoons started.
We got flooded out 4 times that year. This was a pic from the first time. The very first day monsoon hit us in Mumbai. We had no warning this could happen, and every single person we met before we took up the space told us there’s been no flooding after 2004. 16 years was a long enough gap for us to think we’re safe. Besides damages to a few tables and chairs, a lot of papers that went floating away in the water, and wading through all that dirty skunky Mumbai water, we didn't suffer much losses. Our neighbours were mighty helpful. Everything got shifted to higher levels. It brought a fresh perspective to living in Mumbai. And I understood how rains can get traumatic
The last 5 years of running this show has almost always felt like you’re at the top of a rollercoaster about to go hurtling down in full speed. Even the momentum of the upwards climb that comes after that seems like a quick preview to the upside down hang-onto-your-safety-bars phase that comes next.
A lot of days are spent questioning why people build businesses? Why did I build Plattered? I literally did build it mix by mix. The last week has been interesting as I’ve baked using a Plattered mix every single day for my family. These are fantastic mixes that I feel safe to make for my family. It also makes it easy for me to be the favourite aunty to my nephews, and so versatile, that I could almost become the favourite sister/daughter as well. All of which could be achieved without me breaking a sweat. But making something that only I find useful seems a surefire way of heading towards a disastrous ending. So unless there are more of you out there who find Plattered premixes handy, the future is starting to look bleak
So tell me, what makes you hesitate to get a Plattered premix?
