CHINA GARDEN Gurugram…..Finally a Class Chinese in Gurgaon

Henry Wang son of Legendary Nelson Wang has been telling me about his new venture in Gurgaon for about a year. I have not seen him so excited and charged like this about any project before. China Gurgaon is actually not a project for him but his passion.
HE WAS CLEAR FROM DAY ONE THAT HE ONLY WANTS GOURMET PLANET TO LAUNCH HIS NEW BABY. THERE ARE NO OTHER LAUNCHES AND OPENING PARTIES TILL AFTER THE RESTAURANT IS UP AND RUNNING. I AM HUMBLED AND I THANK HIM FOR HIS TRUST AND FAITH IN YOUR GOURMET PLANET.
So, finally on the D-Day 40 of GP family, mostly residing in or around Gurgaon got together last night for the first official meal churned out by the kitchen.
The restaurant is sprawled over 5000 Sq. Ft, very classically done up with some amazing and museum worthy antiques dawning a whole wall.
The bar was flowing with the choicest of premium alcohol (Typical The Wang Family trait-extremely generous in their hospitality) and we sat down for dinner at sharp 9 pm.
Next 180 minutes were sheer magic, the menu curated by me was humongous (I have vowed since to tone it down in future). There were 10 types of Dim Sums, Pulled King Crab, 4 Starters, 8 Main-courses and 2 desserts making a total of 24 dishes to be tasted. I don’t think a single guest could try all 24.
My star dishes were-
Dim Sums
Special Scallop Dumpling, Crispy Prawn Cheung Fun in Superior sauce, Steamed Tenderloin Balls, Prawn and Chive Dumpling, Fee Yan, Wasabi Mustard (Fish/pork) and Seafood Dumpling in Chilly, Xo Oil in Dim Sums.
Crab-
The Home Pulled King Crab Meat, Szechwan Sauce, Chinese Steamed Bread,
Starters-
Smoked Chilly Bacon Wrapped Prawns, Chow Chu Fish Chilly, Salt and Pepper, Lou Phai K*t (BBQ Pork Spare ribs), Gin Chicken,
Mains-
Soya Wine Chilly Steak, Lobster Butter, Pepper, Garlic (This tastes as good with Prawns), Steamed Basket Fish Fillets Ginger, Bean, Rice noodle and Crispy Shredded Pork, Hunan Black Pepper, white onions. Well, this almost the entire whole menu.
Henry Wang the young charismatic owner parked himself in the kitchen for the entire 3 hours ensuring an un-believable quality of food.
Great food must be complimented by equally good service and Barry Pereira, Mark Manuk and their service staff was impeccable. Not one dish was delayed, neither was the speed too much. Drinks were replaced swiftly; Plates were changes fast. All in all, it was one of the best Gourmet Planet events. And again, the tough task master Henry Wang must be credited for it because I believe there were mock drills for 4 days.
Some regular members and some new ones synergised the evening. You know the event is super hit when even after 3 hours of continuous eating the guests break out into singing old nostalgic songs.
Henry Wang, you have a great thing going in China Garden Gurugram and a fabulous team, wish you all the very best.

And please do not try to reinvent the wheel, just go there and ask for The Gourmet Planet menu. I have already shortlisted the best dishes of the restaurant.
