The Cottage is the embodiment of Nina Roy's love of embroidery on textiles & clothing, exquisite art, home decor and furniture. I received an order for a young couple in the US. Table linens for a sixteen seater with twenty four matching table napkins and twenty four cocktail napkins. Time given was a month. Till then I had done all the hand embroidery myself. Unfortunately for me, soon after gett
ing the order I fell sick. I had fever and the weakness got to me. My order was pending. Suddenly by a quick of fate, a lady introduced me to the Fellowship of the Physically Handicapped at Haji Ali in Mumbai. That is when my association with them began. Some of the girls who knew embroidery took a keen interest in the work and six of us together managed to finish the job. It was appreciated and it actually turned out to be a beautiful piece of work. I then took in seven girls. They were all hearing impaired but extremely talented and intelligent otherwise. My home became their office. They worked from 10am to 5pm five days of the week. I taught them the more difficult embroidery. Whatever they made was sold. I became a life member of the Ladies Wing of the Indian Merchants Chamber of Commerce. I held exhibitions through them. I received orders and that is how my little business grew. My dream was always to have a little retail outlet of my own. Cut to fifteen years later. It all seems to be coming true. I will soon be starting my very own lifestyle store cm cafeteria in Mumbai."
