Reviews have increasingly become mirrors of ego rather than reflections of experience.
Dropping a one-star review and spinning a dramatic story is easy..because only one side gets to speak. The review rarely mentions the reviewer’s own rude behavior, unreasonable demands, or disregard for rules. That’s why fake or misleading reviews often travel faster than the truth.
Remember that famous case from about a decade ago? A restaurant in England became the #1-rated restaurant..even though it never actually existed.
Maybe it’s time we stopped reviewing only hotels and restaurants, and started rating guest behavior too. Just as a CIBIL score reflects financial credibility, a Guest Behaviour Rating could reflect basic civility and responsibility.
Then fake reviews would lose their power, and bad behavior would stop being worn as a badge of pride.
At that point, ratings would reflect reality..not ego.
And perhaps, before handing out stars to others, people would first take a look at the score of their own character.
