🧵Day 10 of Navratri :- Maa Mahishasura Mardini, the lion-riding Goddess with ten arms, who slays the buffalo demon and reminds us that dharma always conquers adharma.
She is a fierce form of Durga Devi known as Mahishasura Mardini = the destroyer (mardini) of the demon Mahishasura (buffalo demon). She symbolizes the triumph of dharma (righteousness) over adharma (evil).
The demon king Mahishasura obtained a boon that no man or god could kill him.
With this power, he terrorized heaven and earth. To save creation, the combined energies of all gods manifested into Durga, armed with their divine weapons. Riding her lion, she fought Mahishasura for nine nights, and on the tenth day (Vijaya Dashami), she killed him.
This victory is the central theme of Navratri & Durga Puja.
Her looks are Depicted as riding a lion, striking down Mahishasura with her trident. Ten arms, each holding divine weapons: trident, discus, bow, mace, sword, conch, and more. Fierce yet motherly her eyes blazing with power but filled with compassion for devotees. Often shown with Mahishasura (buffalo-headed demon) crushed beneath her feet.
She is Shakti in action — the unstoppable cosmic force. Represents courage, protection, and fearlessness. Teaches that no matter how strong evil grows, it will be destroyed by truth and divine power.
The nine nights of Navratri symbolize this battle, culminating in the victory of light over darkness.
Few of her Famous temples around Bharat are Chamundeshwari Temple (Mysore, Karnataka), Mahishasura Mardini Temple (Chennai, TN), and many Shakti Peethas.
