Why do Hyderabadis have Baghara Khana, Dalcha, Talawa Gosht and Shikampur on Fridays?
For many Hyderabadi families, Friday has always been a little different. After the Jumma prayers, everyone comes back home, sits together, and enjoys a proper lunch with some of the most comforting dishes we grew up eating.
Baghara Khana with its fragrant, spiced rice, Dalcha with tender mutton and bottle gourd, crispy and juicy Talawa Gosht, and of course, the melt-in-your-mouth Shikampur. Put them all on one dastarkhan and you already know what Friday lunch feels like. ❤️
The tradition has been carried through generations, with the Nizam-era influence playing a part in shaping the food culture Hyderabad is known for today.
Maybe that's why these dishes just hit different on a Friday afternoon. It's not only about the food , it's the prayers, the family sitting together, the aroma coming from the kitchen, and those flavours we've grown up with.
For Hyderabadis, Friday lunch isn't just a meal. It's a tradition. ❤️🔥
