Press Release | 04th February, 2026

India’s sovereignty is non-negotiable.
Trump’s Statement on Venezuelan Oil Exposes Direct U.S. Interference in India’s Sovereignty : Adv. Renu Singh, National convener, Young Democrats.

New Delhi: The recent statement by former U.S. President Donald Trump claiming that “India is coming in and they're going to be buying Venezuelan oil as opposed to buying it from Iran. we’ve already made that deal” is a shocking revelation that openly exposes American interference in India’s sovereign economic and foreign policy decisions.

India is a sovereign nation with the constitutional authority to determine its own energy security, trade relations and diplomatic priorities. Any claim by a foreign leader that such decisions are being made through “deals” dictated by the United States undermines India’s autonomy and reduces the country to a subordinate actor in global politics.

Equally disturbing is the deafening silence of the BJP-led Union Government on this matter. Despite repeated assertions of a “strong India” and “decisive leadership,” the government has failed to issue a firm, transparent and dignified response to this statement. This silence raises serious questions about whether India’s foreign policy is being quietly aligned under external pressure rather than guided by national interest.

The BJP government’s reluctance to respond decisively reflects a growing pattern of submission before powerful global actors, particularly the United States. Strategic partnerships cannot come at the cost of constitutional sovereignty, democratic accountability and independent decision-making.

India’s energy policy must prioritize affordability, accessibility and national interest not geopolitical bargaining dictated from Washington. The people of India deserve clarity on whether such “deals” exist and if so, who authorized them and under what mandate.

We demand that the Government of India immediately clarify its position, place all relevant facts before the public and assert India’s sovereign right to make independent economic and diplomatic choices without foreign coercion.

*Menstrual Health becomes a Fundamental Right: A Rose among Thorns?*

The Supreme court of India just declared that Menstrual health and safety is a Fundamental Right to life under Article 21. While this is something that is considered 'a good news in a while', it is just 'something'. Women face a lot of safety issues in India, we know that. India is ranked 131st among 181 countries in the 2025/26 global Women Peace and Security Index. Among all those thorns women face daily, menstrual safety and health plays a part. Disregarding that, this is the kind of news that should have come out in 1996 instead of 2026. Which brings out the question, aren't we moving a bit slower in case of women's rights? It is about time menstrual health became a fundamental right.

Time to face the reality and discuss how the Court directions on Free Sanitary Pads, Menstrual Hygiene Management corners in schools is a rose among thorns. The Supreme court direction had one too many notable points. One of them being the teachers, male or female, be given training regarding menstrual hygiene and how they can support their menstruating students. This is very much appreciated as we have seen how little girls were shamed and harassed by their own teachers for getting period stains. In addition to giving sanitary napkins free of cost to the students, the push to establish Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) corners is commendable.

These corners are to be equipped with spare innerwear, spare uniforms, disposable bags, and other necessary materials to address menstruation related exigencies. It is also to be noted that the court asked for toilets in every school, catering to both genders(separate) with the availability of water and soap at all times.

The Court's discussion on Period poverty was very much needed. As little girls from poor families or from backward communities drop out of school due to menstruation management difficulties. The Court made an important point that Right to education is a fundamental right under Article 21A and the RTE Act comprises free, compulsory, and quality education. Free education includes all kinds of charges or expenses that would prevent a child from pursuing and completing elementary education. Therefore, the right to Menstrual hygiene is an integral part of Article 21 of the constitution.

It is about time we came forward as a society from viewing menstruation as shameful and something to hide. It is a biological process that happens to fifty percent of the world's population, so it is not a secret and therefore menstrual health should be considered a human right. This is the year 2026, and we're yet to achieve access to free sanitary products for every woman and menstrual leave policies.

EPSTEIN FILES CAST A DARK SHADOW OVER MODI'S LEADERSHIP AND INDIA'S DIPLOMATIC INTEGRITY

Muhammed Ashraf, National General Secretary of the Social Democratic Party of India, strongly condemns Prime Minister Narendra Modi in light of disturbing disclosures from the recently released Jeffrey Epstein files by the United States Department of Justice.

The documents contain deeply troubling claims that raise serious questions about the judgment, integrity, and ethical standards of India’s highest political office. According to the released material, an email attributed to Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted s*x offender who built a global network by exploiting vulnerable individuals while cultivating powerful elites, alleges that Prime Minister Modi sought and acted upon Epstein’s advice during his 2017 visit to Israel. The email portrays the Prime Minister’s conduct as a calculated performance aimed at pleasing then United States President Donald Trump, reducing a historic diplomatic engagement to a spectacle shaped by foreign political interests rather than India’s sovereign dignity.

If these claims are accurate, they represent far more than an embarrassment. They point to the disturbing possibility that India’s foreign policy decision making was influenced by a disgraced criminal figure, undermining national autonomy and eroding public trust. Such conduct would mark a serious departure from India’s long standing tradition of independent diplomacy and ethical statecraft.

Equally alarming is the Modi government’s response. Instead of offering a transparent and fact based explanation, the allegations have been summarily dismissed without addressing the specific claims cited in official United States releases. This evasive approach only deepens suspicion and raises concerns about deliberate avoidance of accountability.

The files also indicate repeated interactions between Epstein and senior Indian officials, including reported meetings with Hardeep Singh Puri, a key minister in the Modi cabinet, even after Epstein’s 2008 conviction. If confirmed, such engagements reflect a shocking disregard for ethical norms and political responsibility. Further claims that Epstein attempted to facilitate a meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Steve Bannon, a figure associated with far right and divisive ideologies, point to a dangerous willingness to expose India’s leadership to extremist global networks that threaten the country’s secular and democratic foundations.

Taken together, these disclosures constitute a national disgrace. They reveal a pattern of opaque back channel dealings and a troubling contrast between the government’s intolerance of dissent at home and its apparent tolerance for questionable associations abroad, even as minorities, journalists, and activists face increasing intimidation.

Muhammed Ashraf demands an independent and impartial investigation into these allegations. Parliament must act, and the Prime Minister must be held to the highest standards of accountability.
