Today at lunch I went all rustic and decided to have farmers lunch, which consisted of a bajra bhakri / roti (pearl millet flat bread) loaded with ghee, stir fry - radish greens, onion, green chillies and lots of lightly crushed garlic along with jaggery and garlic chutney.

Everything in my plate today was yum and had fabulous nutritional values. Just jotted down a few I know about -

Bajra -
Bajra is rich in essential compounds like protein, fibre, phosphorus, magnesium and iron. Due to its rich composition of minerals and proteins, it has lots of health benefits.
With it's high fibre content, it digest slowly and release glucose at a slower pace, helping in maintaining healthy blood sugar levels and controlling diabetes.
It reduces cholesterol as it contains phytic acid believed to increase cholesterol metabolism.
Rich in insoluble fibre it aids digestion.

Radish -
Low in Saturated Fat, and very low in Cholesterol. Radish is also a good source of Riboflavin, Vitamin B6, Calcium, Magnesium, Copper and Manganese, and a very good source of Dietary Fiber, Vitamin C, Folate and Potassium.
It also regulate blood pressure, relieve congestion, and prevent respiratory problems such as asthma or bronchitis. They have antibacterial, antifungal, and detoxifying properties, and contain compounds that soothe rashes, dryness, and other skin disorders.

Garlic -
“Garlic is one of the richest sources of organic selenium and germanium. Together, garlic’s disclosed and yet undiscovered nutrients combine to make it one of the best nutritional spices in the world.” German Journal of Oncology, April 1989

Garlic has been used for millennia to treat ear infections, cholera and typhus. It also helps lower cholesterol and blood pressure, improves circulation and lowers blood sugar levels. It is one of the most effect antibiotic plants available, acting on bacteria, viruses and parasites.

Jaggery -
The benefits of jaggery include its ability to cleanse your body, act as a digestive agent, sweeten your food in a healthy manner, and provide good amounts of minerals.

Sok kadhi a popular and healthy drink which is usually consumed mainly after heavy meals in Goa and Konkan region of Maharashtra. As it aids in improving digestion. Made with coconut milk as base and sol or kokum as the main ingredient. Sol is a dried fruit which is tangy in taste and is found in abundance in this region.
Sol kadhi is not just known for its yummy taste but also for the several health benefits it can impart. It contains healing properties, antioxidants and anthocyanins and is most idyllic for hot summer months, though is consumed throughout the year for its amazing health benefits.
