A TRIP THROUGH KERALA'S HISTORY THROUGH FOOD

Foreign influence on the cuisine of Kerala is marked, with each religion from Muslims to Syrian Christians developing their own cuisine and style of preparation. The Mappila cuisine of the Malabar region (North Kerala) has a distinct flavour, borrowed from the traders who regularly visited the region.

Kerala cuisine has an abundance of coconut, rice, tapioca, cocum and spices like black pepper, cloves, cinnamon and ginger. The Portuguese introduced cassava, now widely eaten in Kerala.

This restaurant is our ode to the many cultures that have influenced food from British, Jewish, Portuguese, Dutch and South India

Clay pots are great for slow cooking as its porous nature allows both moisture and heat to circulate easily through them. This helps in an even, slow and delicate cooking of the squid.
Chatty Koonthal - Squid cooked in earthenware with cocum & chilly.

I hate sad endings, But then some of them are inevitable. The Fort Kochi Connection at Kormangala has run its course and it is time for us to exit.

It’s a baby that we have loved and nurtured with all our heart. We want to thank everyone who has stepped into our restaurant and dined with us, everyone who recommended us to your friends and family, everyone who rapped us for our mistakes, All our vendors and supporters, Thank You for all the Love.

A couple of years back we set out to bring the best of Kerala cuisine to Bangalore, and we believe we were successful in doing it for a large part and we have always taken a lot of pride in the food we have served. The decision to close the restaurant at its current location came after a lot of soul searching, the restrictive increase in rent accelerated the decision further. For once we had to think with our head and not with our heart.

I promise you, We will be back…. Soon, Very very soon at a location and space where it all makes sense. June 28th Sunday will be the last day of service at The Fort Kochi connection, Koramangala. We will see you soon, till then come over to Fortkochi at the 1 MG Road mall at let us delight your pallette.
