The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking recognised by United Nations, observed annually on 26 June, since 1989 aims for an international society free of drug abuse, the fight against substance abuse and unlawful trade of drugs.
For 2020, the theme for the day is 'Better Knowledge for Better Care'.
According to UN, around 269 million people used drugs worldwide in 2018, which is 30% more than in 2009. Over 35 million people suffer from drug use disorder.
To tackle the problem of illicit trafficking of drugs several organizations are working all round the world. SPYM (Society for the Promotion of Youth and Masses) is one of them. SPYM has over 28 years of expertise in the field of Drug Abuse Prevention & early intervention among Children, adolescents, youth & adults.
Enactus Ramjas and it's initiative Project Bawarchi, in collaboration with SPYM have been working to rehabilitate the victims of drugs and substance abuse and helped them run their own canteen (which has now been turned into a Cafeteria) and tiffin delivery service in the University Campus, so that they are not deemed as a burden on the society.
It's still a long way to win the battle against drug trafficking. Let's pledge to develop our lives, our communities and our identities without drugs.
