LATEST: Horrific Shooting at Child’s Birthday Party in Stockton
4 dead, 10 injured; suspect still at large
Stockton, California – November 29, 2025
A children’s birthday party turned into a tragedy on the evening of November 29 when at least one gunman opened fire inside a party hall in downtown Stockton, killing four people — including a child — and injuring at least ten others.
The shooting occurred around 7:00 PM at an event center located at the intersection of Lucille Avenue and Thornton Road, a densely populated area of Stockton.
According to the Stockton Police Department, dozens of people, mostly families and children, were attending the celebration when gunfire suddenly erupted.
“I heard at least 20 to 30 shots nonstop. Everyone was screaming, kids were crying, and people were running everywhere,”
a witness told local station KCRA-3.
When first responders arrived, they found multiple victims both inside the venue and in the parking lot. All 14 victims were rushed to nearby hospitals. By 11 PM, authorities confirmed that four had died — including at least one child — while the remaining 10 were hospitalized, several in critical condition.
Police said the suspect, described as a male, fled the scene immediately after the shooting and has not yet been captured.
SWAT teams, K9 units, and helicopters have been deployed to search Stockton and nearby cities such as Manteca and Tracy.
Stockton Police Lt. Ross Cline stated during a late-night press briefing:
“We are doing everything we can to apprehend the suspect before he harms anyone else.”
No official motive has been released. Early information suggests a possible personal conflict or gang-related dispute, though police declined to confirm.
Community & Official Reactions
Stockton’s Vice Mayor, Jason Lee, posted on Facebook shortly after the incident:
“My heart is broken and furious. A children’s birthday party — a place that should be filled with balloons and cake — became a place where families feared for their lives. Enough is enough.”
California Governor Gavin Newsom also issued a statement:
“Tonight, Stockton has been struck by yet another tragic shooting. I am working closely with local law enforcement. Those responsible will be brought to justice.”
Gun Violence Rising
The Stockton attack marks the 487th mass shooting in the U.S. in 2025, according to the Gun Violence Archive (defined as incidents where four or more people are shot, excluding the shooter).
In California alone, this is the 41st mass shooting this year. Stockton is home to one of the largest Vietnamese communities in Northern California, many of whom have expressed shock and grief.
