The Perfect Star Bread! (Pesto Flavoured)

Ingredients
For the Dough:
3 ½ cups (440g) all-purpose flour
¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp instant yeast
1 cup (240ml) warm milk (110°F/45°C)
¼ cup (60g) unsalted butter, melted
1 large egg
For the Topping:
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Powdered sugar (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
2. Add the warm milk, melted butter, and egg. Mix until the dough comes together.
3. Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. (You can use a stand mixer with a dough hook.)
4. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Step 2: Divide and Roll
1. After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces.
2. Roll each piece into a circle about 10-12 inches in diameter.
Step 3: Assemble the Starbread
1. Place the first circle of dough on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Spread a thin layer of your chosen filling (e.g., butter and cinnamon sugar).
2. Repeat with the second and third layers, adding filling between each, and top with the fourth circle of dough (no filling on top).
3. Place a small glass or round cutter in the center of the stacked dough to mark the middle.
Step 4: Shape the Star
1. Use a sharp knife to cut the dough into 16 equal strips, starting from the outer edge of the glass to the edge of the dough.
2. Take two adjacent strips and twist them outward twice, then pinch the ends together to form a point. Repeat for all strips.
Step 5: Final Rise and Bake
1. Cover the shaped bread and let it rise for 20 minutes. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Brush the starbread with beaten egg for a golden finish.
3. Bake for 20-25 mins. until golden brown.
