Born a few months before Odisha became a state in 1936, 90 year old Anant Mahapatra has been a witness to and a protagonist in the theatre of Bhubaneswar. Son of a High Court Judge residing in Cuttack, he had frequent visits to Bhubaneswar, before he decided to make the city his home in 1962.

Often described as the Renaissance man of Odia theatre, Anant Mahapatra is a cultural icon in Bhubaneswar and Odisha. As we celebrate 90 years of the formation of Odisha state and 78 years of Bhubaneswar becoming the capital city, there is none better than Mr Mahapatra to share stories of the city before it was the Capital and how it slowly changed.
