Utkala Divas is celebrated to commemorate the foundation day of our state Orissa on 1st April 1936. Orissa took birth as a separate linguistic state because of the pioneering efforts of Utkala Gaurav Madhusudan Das, Utkalamani Gopabandhu Das, Maharaja Shri Ramachandra Bhanjadeo, Maharaja Shri Krushna Chandra Gajapati, Raja Baikunthanath Dey, Fakir Mohan Senapati, Gangadhar Meher, and Gourishankar Ray.

We pray Saraswati, the goddess of learning and the wife of Brahma on this very day. The day marked for the propitiation of Saraswati, the Goddess of learning is otherwise also known as Sripanchami or Basanta Panchami.
On Saraswati puja, people make offerings in the form of flowers in temples and to sacred texts. As kids, we have very fond memories. Adorned with new garments to offer worship to goddess Saraswati, chanting hyms and inviting the goddess home!
Today also marks the beginning of the chariot making process for the Rath Yatra in Puri. The wood for the construction of the chariots for the Rath Yatra, already been sourced from the Nayagarh forest division, was inaugurated today after the receipt of Agyan Mala (garlands). East Indies wishes everyone a happy Saraswati Puja.
