The House of Dasaprakash has for generations been synonymous with great food, eloquent hospitality and pleasing innovations. As we step into the next era, there is a yearning for the glory days and a mission to bring our brand of classic hospitality to the citizens of the world. We are a nation rich in tradition and we are delivered to the preservation of one’s heritage. To know where you’ve come

from and of the achievements of your forefathers serves as inspiration and a constant reminder of the ability deep within each individual to achieve greatness and happiness. This South Indian family’s quest into hospitality began at the hands of Sri K. Seetharama Rao, the third son of Sri Govinda Dasa and Smt. Sri K.Seetharama Rao was a deeply religious man and had humble working beginning at the Collector’s Office in Mangalore in 1917 for Rs. 35 a month in order to discharge his family responsibilities. As time went by, the need to go upon life motivated him and his brothers to establish a motel in Mysore in the early twenties. The intention was to provide the comfort of home for weary travellers in a day and age, where this comfort was hard to come by. The family set up The Majestic Hotel and Vidyarthi Bahvan in Mysore and in due course The Modern Hindu Hotel, a Govt building was given by Sir M.Visweswarayya to Sri K.Seetharama Rao to run on a monthly rental basis joined the hotel landscape of Mysore as well. After establishing himself in Mysore, Sri.K.Seetharama Rao for health reasons shifted his base to Madras. It is here he introduced the concept of Masala Dosa in Madras in 1934. This landmark event propelled the family to make their trademark entry with the world of cuisine. Soon he realised a need to set up his own ventures, Sri K.Seetharama Rao dedicated himself to the hospitality industry with venture in Ooty in 1928 called as Modern Hindu Hotel. As the 1930s set in, he set up the Modern Cafe in Madras opposite to The High Court and Hari Nivas in the Parrys Corner area. The year 1942 saw the first Dasaprakash Hotel come to life in Mysore under the guided hands of Sir Mirza Ismail, the Architect of modern Mysore, with roads being built and diverted to connect this stately property to the city. In 1948, Dasaprakash opened its own doors in Ooty and six years later in 1954, the flagship Dasaprakash in Madras was inaugurated. Dasaprakash and Seetharama Rao had arrived. Seetharama Rao, in the words of “Dr.D.G.Gundappa”, brought prestige to the hotel business. In the words of “Rajaji” Seetharama Rao combined ‘Bhakthi” with ‘Business’. Sir.M.Visweswaryya on the occasion of the opening of the Hotel credited Seetharama Rao as the promoter of an important branch of business organisation in South India and also mentioned he was upto the minute in modernisation of the hotel. The Dasaprakash in Madras was a hotel made to serve everyone with every need. From important dignitaries to children who ran wild at the Children’s Park, this hotel was truly ‘A Home away from Home’ to many. From Family suites, to a Book Shop, a Cold Coffee Bar, an Ice Cream Parlour and the Sky Roof Restaurant, the Dasaprakash in Madras, was a landmark and will always remain one. The Sky Roof restaurant at its peak hosted Moonlit Dinners, the Centenary Celebration of these dinners was celebrated with a lavish party and the cream of Indian society came calling. Under the divine grace of his father, Sri K.Seetharama Rao saw his business flourish and grow, and it became a service minded business rather than a money making one. The focus was always on fine service, for all citizens and for the Kings, Queens, Chief Ministers, Finance Ministers, Presidents, Industrialists, Ambassadors of State and other Hotel icons who visited Dasaprakash. As the 1960s were ushered in, Sri K. Seetharama Rao introduced the Kalyana Mandap concept for the first time to South Indian society. He built Kalyana Mandaps in Thirumala, Udipi, Mysore and the Dharmaprakash Kalyana Mandap in Madras. Sri Seetharama Rao started his career as an hotelier purely on the blessings and a firm belief in the tradition of ‘Athithi Devo Bhava’ – that a Guest should be worshipped like God. Public service, several innovations and living by the highest of principles led Sri Seetharama Rao onto a path of infinite success and happiness. Upon his passing in 1968, he left behind a formidable legacy and had imparted all the knowledge he had gained over the years to his sons. The generation to come, would diversify, grow and even find an international home for the House of Dasaprakash. The House of Dasaprakash slowly began to establish its ice-cream brand, travel agency and set up more restaurants across the nation and even one in California. In 1982, Sri K.Narayana Das, one of Sri Seetharama Rao’s sons, and a Sanskrit Scholar by education, always showed keen interest in the family business. He took on a more active role in the 70s and went on to set up Dasaprakash Paradise a dear project of his father and the Bristol Grill in Mumbai. In 1982, he opened Dasaprakash Paradise in Mysore, a hotel that he built and envisioned from the start. In the late 90s the House of Dasaprakash extended its services to the Shastri Bhavan in Delhi which became the nest for the leaders of the Press Information bureau of the Government besides the various Government departments. Recently Dasaprakash has found itself in the ever growing city of Gurgaon. As the legacy of the House of Dasaprakash moves forward, the current generation is keen to emulate their father and their grandfather and the belief in hard work and learning the ropes is paramount. Bhakta Govinda Das, elder son of Sri K. Narayana Das, is a member of the present generation and his vision for the House of Dasaprakash is to extend the fine art of classic hospitality to the citizens of the world. Bhakta chose to learn the ropes the hard way and started his career in hospitality in London, England. As he pursued his Masters in Finance, he worked with one of the leading independent hotel chains in London, Grange Hotels. His period of learning has inspired him to replicate and revive what his grandfather Sri K.Seetharama Rao and father Sri.K.Narayana Das did for South Indian Hospitality. With the transportation ease of the Metro slowly finding itself in every major Indian city, Bhakta sees the potential it has to become an experience for its travellers with its stations destined to potentially be one of the busiest spots in the city. The London Underground with its colourful and intense history serves as an inspiration to him and for weary travellers, a spot to sit down, relax and savour the day to come or the hard one that is ending is almost godsend. Bangalore, the IT capital of the world is slowly catching up and delivering on promises made to their citizens, one of them being ‘Namma Metro’. Just as his grandfather created a home away from home for weary travellers, the generation of today is looking for a nook to rest and replenish at as they battle the fast pace of life today. The House of Dasaprakash is keen to deliver just that and revive the old and fine culture of South Indian hospitality in the heart of one of India’s most cosmopolitan cities. The House of Dasaprakash has a rich and colourful history, with many achievements, great celebrations and a legacy embedded in the minds of many. Through generations, the Dasaprakash Dosa has imprinted itself on the taste buds and in the childhood dreams of many. The time has come for present and future generations to have the very experience that their parents and grandparents grew up with and took for granted. The House of Dasaprakash is, as always, at your humble service.
