Ten years in, we’re increasingly convinced that listening is an underrated skill.

Some thoughts from Arshiya on how it shaped Black Baza from the very beginning.

Ten years in, some of the biggest lessons weren’t about coffee at all.

They were about people, relationships, patience, trust, and how long meaningful work actually takes.

A few reflections from Arshiya.

Same bird. Same values. New feathers.

When we started Black Baza, we were figuring things out, designing as we went along.

A decade later, we’re still figuring plenty of things out. But we’re perhaps a little clearer about what we know and what we don’t. A little neater around the edges. A little more confident in our shape and form. And maybe we’ve grown sideways as much as we’ve grown up.

So, we’ve given ourselves a new logo.

The Black Baza bird remains at its heart (we’d never get rid of that), but everything around it has evolved.

A huge thank you to the wonderful folks at Studio Design Brew (), who somehow managed to distil all our muddled, motley thoughts into something that feels unmistakably us. But just a little more polished.

This is only the beginning. Along with the new logo comes a whole new visual language and many more stories that we’re excited to share with you.

We’re ten!

Over the next few months, we’ll slowly unpack how we got here, with stories, reflections, and a little nostalgia.

But for now, please enjoy these elephants.

This year, Black Baza turns ten.

Over the next few months, we’ll be sharing stories from the last decade — some successes, some mistakes, some hard lessons, and a few things we’re still trying to figure out, and the people who made this journey possible.

Thank you for being part of it.

This first video is about beginnings.

There’s coffee drying everywhere at the PICO unit, and Arshiya has some help making the rounds. Meet Gauri, three days old and already training for the job. Stay tuned for more notes from the field.

Kempamma and Kathirangegowda grow coffee on a small parcel of land, at the edge of the BR Tiger Reserve. Over the last few years, Kempamma has become the only woman in her hamlet producing Microlots, including our Yellow Honey, now in its third year.

Microlot processing is careful, demanding work, but it also allows smallholder farmers to earn significantly better prices for their coffee and and move away from recurring debt cycles.

A lot of patience goes into making Yellow Honey. Carefully picked fruit, a long underwater fermentation, and more than 20 days of drying all come together to create this Microlot.

We’re very fond of how this one has turned out, and we can’t wait for you to taste it.
