Folklore has it, that Buddha carried a bowl with him on his journeies and accepted food as donation (Bhiksha). In modern folklore, a Buddha (or as we like to say Bhiksha) bowl is an amalgamation of plant based goodness of grainn, vegetables, protein and a sauce.
Have you tried our ode to Buddha? Served in a bowl with seven different elements in a combination of grains and vegetable that we keep changing :-) It makes for a happy tummy and looks like the rounded tummy of a happy Buddha too!

Come meet us and our food. Let us know if you are dropping by, will help plan and prep better

P.S. Each plate (bowl) of food is made just for you.

We are back to our favorite kitchen, experimenting on new dishes to serve this month.
Today alongwith the other regular items on our menu, we introduced Shaavige to the customers.
Today we made Shaavige with Ondukkadi rice, we brought from Buffalo Back store (sent by the farmers of Yellapur district),The ondukaddi variety has high fibre content and is rich in micronutrients.Rice is so much a part of our culture because our geography and our climatic condition make rice the least allergenic and most nutrient grain.

Served with a side of Stew,a popular side dish to dunk the fresh steamed Shaavige in. Together with coconut milk and jaggery, also a popular combination we would have at home while growing up. Memories of that soulful meal is what made us cook it today.

Come join us this weekend and tell us your favorite combination with Shaavige!

Hello Hello, we are in the midst of some serious brainstorming about the cafe and our individual journeys. They say change is constant but it is never easy. Right? While we figure things out at our end, we would like to inform you that the cafe will open only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday starting March 1st. We will be back with more updates, and in the meantime, we hope you will plan on making your weekends a Hungry Buffalo one.

Makara Sankranti /Pongal marks the end of winter, in other words the transition of Sun playing hide and seek, showering mild warmth in the midst of chilly winters to a steady strong rays of warmth.
Time of the year when harvest is done and celebrated with fresh produce......,......
With all the drastic changes in climatic conditions during winter and rainy season our farmers were still able to provide us with good winter produce. We definitely explored and thoroughly enjoyed the varieties of Bassaru made from
Ridge Gourd,Beans,Sabasge and Toor dal
Avrekaalu, Groundnut powder, Bottle gourd(our favourite)
Cabbage, Channa dal
Horsegram and Sabasge leaves
Chikka Harive, Sabasge and Toor dal
Versatility of Bassaru is so interesting and never ending which is definitely a must have during winters. We are definitely grateful to Indrakka in our kitchen for introducing us to so many varieties.......

Cherishing all these we welcome the transition in the season.

Happy Sankranthi,Happy Pongal,Happy Lohri to one and all..

Peace and Love from Hungry Buffalo πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ’š

This is what kept us busy yesterday :) a healthy lively discussion with students from University of Washington, who wanted to know about our journey, our challenges
They walked in with lot of eagerness to learn and try out new stuff,
We had to beat down our apprehensions and bring out the best food.. That's what good/positive energy does.. end result it was like a house party with lot of conversations over and about food and isn't that our favoritest conversation :) Happy food, happy tummy, happy people that's what we@hungry Buffalo strive for..
