Did you know that a day on the calendar is dedicated to Idli?  
As surprising as it sounds, today marks the celebration of India's most staple, easily-made, versatile and simple dish – Idli!
7 years ago, Mr. Eniyavan, a famous Idli caterer from Chennai made about 1328 varieties of Idli’s to commemorate this day. A bureaucrat then declared “The World Idli Day” on March 30th by repeatedly cutting a giant 44-kilogram Idli.
All for the love of Idli!

Have it with Chutney or Sambar, have it as your breakfast, snack, or light dinner, have it in all its varieties, and either way, Idli never fails!

// Panchavati – The legacy continues //

In the hubbub of Malleshwara, near the MES college, stands Panchavati, calm, serene, and profound. Panchavati is the residence of the Nobel laureate C.V Raman, the Indian Physicist, who demonstrated outstanding performance in the field of scattering of light. In the old days, when Raman was house-hunting, there were several houses available. But the mastermind’s eye catches only a house of character. An enchanting house standing at the back of a large plot with beautiful space in front for a flower garden. It was named Panchavati by his wife Lokasundari Ammal as Panchavati was the place Rama and Sita spent their lives in exile. The residence had a huge library consisting of several glass-doored almirahs stacked with great English and European classics where innumerable brains came forward to discuss Science. Today, although Panchavati is unknown and appears abandoned, the Raman Research Institute Trust is working on building a science museum and activity center for children. The place is set to forever breathe the man’s legacy of science!

Sakamma - The inspiring woman who stirred Bengaluru with her Coffee Pudi.

Sakamma was born in 1880 in Bidare, a village in the Tumkur district of Karnataka. As Sakamma was always keen to learn and had the zest for education, her parents sent her to school where she became one of the few girls to have passed the secondary school examination in Mysore Province. But life and circumstances unfolded in other ways leading her to marry at the age of 16 to a Coffee planter in Coorg due to her family’s financial struggles. To her misfortune, he passed away in two years and the responsibility of the coffee business was on her shoulder at a delicate age. She strode through the lows of life with absolute confidence, never giving up. Being a quick learner, Sakamma learned all the what-about of running a coffee estate and it soon started flourishing again. She came to Bengaluru in 1920 to expand her business and set up a coffee curing cm powdering unit near Bull Temple Road. Her name traveled throughout Bengaluru through word of mouth and a pioneer of entrepreneurship was born. Bengaluru rose to her Coffee Pudi and Coffee has never been the same again!

Meet Mangalore Bajji or Goli Bajji as most of you know it!

The phenomenal snack trails its way back to the Tulu Nadu region of Karnataka. Mangalore Bajji is an amalgamation of maida, curd, gram flour, rice flour, chopped onion, coriander leaves, coconut, jeera, green chilies, curry leaves and salt. Usually served with green chutney, tasting soft and crispy, Mangalore Bajji serves as a top-notch evening snack in all parts of Karnataka.
